I'm upgrading my gf's computer and am burning a CD of must have apps/tools/ toys - any suggestions? So far I have mozilla, iTunes, acrobat, and a opera... Any other suggestions? Commercial suggestions are cool too since we'll be going to CompUsa.. She wants norton utils but I insist that it's not necessary (she alreay has a bundled copy of NAV) - am I right?

Put the latest service pack on the CD, as well as any needed driver files.

Slipstreaming the service pack would be a better way to go. Clicky

Winamp 5 beta - r0x0r your b0x0rs
Norton Ghost to ghost the system, duh
Opera
Trillian - If she uses more than one IM, this is heaven
CD burning software - Nero
Norton Antivirus and update it two or three times since it won't do all the updates at once
Do all of the Windows Updates
Defragment it in the end
Office
Newest Drivers for everything

BTW, what will you be getting at CompUSA? Chances are, it will be cheaper online at newegg.com

Thanks for all the suggestions! Let's see if I can get her hooked on a non-Aim IM app and Mozilla ;) We're heading to CompUsa to pick up the sims games (she's addicted to them) - any suggestions for a norton utilities like app? I told her that defrag is all she needs but she insists the "norton windows doctor" or whatever actually does something..

Also, what's a good firewall app (Free or not)? I've always thought that school networks are secure but she wants to be extra sure... I used BlackIce years ago but now just rely on a hardware FW...
