Rebuilding RAID5 with Intel ICH10R...

Im not sure if this belongs here or in mobos, but i need to know how to rebuild a RAID5 array with this Intel controller. I had a power outage during a write and disc 0 became problematic. I can get into the RAID controller options, but there is nothing there about rebuilding. Any suggestions? TIA.

BTW, i just built this thing so reinstalling the OS and drivers is not a big deal, but i need to know how to rebuild for future possible failures.

Edit: Ok, now im wondering if i should pick up another disc (i have 3 x 1TB) and RAID10. I have also been running RAID0 for some time with my 4 year old machine. Maybe a RAID0 with my 3 discs is better? Seems quite a few people are down on RAID5. This still doesnt solve my rebuilding problem if do RAID10.

If you're starting from scratch, I'd suggest ditching Intel RAID altogether and find a real backup solution. RAID0 on ICHR has been fine and durable (and I know that I'm taking the risk), but RAD1 has been nothing but a headache for me. It breaks more often than RAID0, and can be really tricky to recover. I know it sounds very ironic but that's what it's been like for me.

I have not attempted RAID5 on ICHR, though.

I had this happen with a forced failure (i.e. I pulled a disk during operation) just to see what would happen. Once I re-inserted the disk I saw the Intel Storage Matrix software pop a notification that the array was rebuilding, and when I got home from work it had completed.

Thanks for the replies.

lopri, i have been running RAID0 for almost 4 years now with no problems at all. I have multiple backups of backups--i wanted something that entailed less thought (my current rig has 7 HDs). I thought about RAID10, my board supports RAID 0, 1, 10, and 5. I ran RAID5 yesterday and it seems like that is going to be hard on discs--they were thrashing constantly. Im going to see how it goes with RAID5, but will probably end up migrating it to RAID10.

pjkenned, thanks. Thats exactly how its supposed to do it. I found this a couple hours after posting: http://support.intel.com/suppo.../imsm/sb/CS-021016.htm
