I used to workout a lot about 2 years ago, got a girlfriend and really haven't gone since and have basically lost all my muscle gains :)

Anyway, I've just started going back and I was wondering, is it any easier to rebuild muscle that 'used to exist' than building muscle from scratch?

IE, will I be able to build my muscle back to what I had before any quicker now than when I was first working out?

I've never taken a break that long, but I find you rebuild alot quicker than the initial growth, and generally surpass plateaus you were once at.

However I've never gone more than 3 months.

Have known guys well over 50 who haven't lifted in 10 or 20 years who have gotten back the muscle they once had with just serious training, but they could not seem to build more muscle. I think it's due to so little growth hormone at that age.

I'm 22 if that makes a difference.

yeah you can get it back more quickly than someone can build it from scratch. That's how many before/after contests are won and fat burner ads are made.

I'm 22 if that makes a difference.
younger is always better

Yes you will.

As long as you gained naturally.

So if you were naturally ripped before, it will take about half the effort it did last time to get to the same physical condition.

Steriods negates this.

I've never taken any supplements.

I like what I've been hearing.

A guy at my gym ripped his bicep in a strongman competition. He had surgery and couldn't workout his upperbody for 6 months. When he came back, he had lost something like 50lbs, and in the first month of training again, he gained 22lbs of muscle. (He owns a BodPod Badyfat/Muscle Mass tank)
