Rebooting

I have a WindowsXP Sony laptop with a DLink DWL-G630 wireless card, on a SWB router with DSL and sometimes because it is a always on connection I will pull out the DLink card when I have to do something away from the computer rather than shutting the computer down, however, when I replace the DLink in the slot I don't get a link unless I reboot the machine, is that normal? It isn't a big deal because I just reboot just curious is all, thanks.... Mark

on my computer the "safely remove hardware" icon is in the task bar, just open it up click on the card and click stop.
