Without rebooting the computer, I'm not sure how I could go about doing this. Would pulling the plug of the cd writer and plugging it back in ruin it?

Is there a sort of IDE initialization that needs to take place at startup, or does power-on mean it's good to go?

BTW, it failed after trying to write a corrupted ISO to a cd. DiscJuggler crashed, and the burner won't open or anything now. The computer sees it, but won't eject anything.

It would short out your PSU, shutting down the whole computer.

Are you using xp? I had my burner not wanting to open any way I could find. I finally went into computer management under admin. tools and it opened that way.

See that tiny little plastic hole on the front of your CD Drive? Stick something in there (paperclip should work) and let the drive open up.

No, I just have almost all of a bunch of files I really want, and they have been in my queue for weeks.

No, I'm using 2k pro. It won't even force to open up. It must've somehow got in some sort of infinite loop due to crappy data causing the program to lock up or something.

Lol, that is true, it's a hole, with plastic around it. However, that doesn't make the computer recognize the drive after it opens up. I'll reboot after my files are done, but until then...

since you are using XP, couldn't you go into the device manager and manually shut down the drive and then restart it?

I've unplugged/replugged the power to my IDE CD-ROM drives in Win2k several times without incident. Talk about living on the edge :)

Probably not a good idea if it's on the same channel as a hard drive. Of course, YMMV. If your computer blows up, don't blame me.

I might try this. I also tried using Nero to open it, Nero just crashed.

Tried using Disc Juggler and it sees no CD drive in there.

So you're going to risk killing your computer just so you don't have to reboot??

This happens when a program locks the CD ROM drive (so that the eject button does nothing). The program normally unlocks the drive when it's done, but if the program crashes, it stays locked. Use this to unlock/lock any CD ROM drives on your computer. It's a command line program.

Yeah, i know that the hole is not made out of plastic, i tried to make a funny... ok?

About your problem, even if you remove the cable it only initializes at boot up, so you have to reboot...

You just have to.. copy files to safe location meanwhile, then reboot...

He doesn't need to reinitialize anything. Windows sees his CD-ROM drive, it just won't eject. His burning app crashed and left his drive locked. Most burning programs by default lock the burner. LUCiD unlocks the drive.

The program looks interesting...but it didn't solve my problem. Thanks though.
