When I try to reboot my system sort of shuts down without rebooting.

The power light and HD light stays on but everything else shuts down.

This even happens when I hit the restart button on my tower.

Its totally annoying.

And how do I combat getting a windows protection error on shut down more often then not.

Please help.

Thanks.

I believe there was just a thread with some suggestions for that. Have you read that thread? If not search for it and maybe it can help you. Good luck...

AMD 760 chipset motherboard and Linksys or D-Link (can't remember which) Ethernet card? If so, it's a known problem. Replace the Ethernet card is the fix. Do a search - there has been a number of threads here and in the Motherboard forum.

/edit

OK, I was way off. It's the Netgear FA311 or FA312 cards that have the problem with the AMD 760 Chipset boards.

You might search through the Knowledge Base at Micro$oft.com. It also has a troubleshooter for all sorts of start/shutdown problems.

This problem is specific to the AMD 760 chipset and the above mentioned NIC. The Microsoft patches and troubleshooting docs don't apply here.
