GetReal,
These rebates 'normally' take 8 weeks or so to be processed, and usually longer with CompUSA...as you know, a credit card dispute has to be filed within 60 days of the date of the statement where the purchase appears...so usually it's too late to file a dispute on a rebate item. I'm curious, did you initiate the dispute before the 60 days were up? Also, was the CC an Amex, or other type of card? I'm asking because I purchased the Glenayre Visor with an Amex, and it sounds like there is something to be concerned about, even though my rebates are currently showing 'approved.' Thanks. >>
-Purchased 9/21 w/ AMEX Blue
-Rebate showed approved when I checked on 11/4
-Rebate showed as denied when I checked again on 12/18
-Called CompUSA corp on 12/8 spoke to Ron Majors and was told "we do pay disputed rebates any more"
-Caledl AMEX Blue card services right after and disputed charge of $189.74 ( $179.00 + 6% tax).
-Dispute was conditionally granted and I was told to provide a signed copy of affadavit from AMEX website or they could mail me a copy and return to them.
-Printed copy and mail it along with a copy of the sales receipt and the original COmpUSA Sunday insert dated 9/16.
-Forgot about the entire issue over the holidays.
-Received a call on 1/9 from the AMEX examiner handling my dispute telling me that it was closed in my favor. I was shocked beacuse my prior disputes usually take several months to receive a final resolution. I asked the examiner why it was closed so fast and was told that CompUSA did not respond to the complaint within the 15 business days required. I asked if I needed to return the item to CompUSA since the charge was reversed and was to not to worry about it and to keep it.
-This past Tuesday, I received an official printed letter from AMEX stating my dispute was closed and resolved in my favor🙂
MY backup plan if my displute was declined or not ruled in my favor was to use AMEX return protection. I have not used AMEX return protection before so I do not know how that would have worked out.
BTW - Just curious. Has anyone received a New Rochelle rebate check for a CompUSA rebate offer since 12/1/2001?
