Holy, 6MB file size! Any comments on if this is "worth it". Not cost but does it help? I was thinking of starting a spreadsheet to do the same...

I tried it. It's too much work for me. I think I'll just stick to writing it down on a piece of paper.

I used to use it, but one time it crashed and wiped out my database. Had to start over :( Now I use a custom excel spreadsheet to keep track - does all the summary totals and stuff like that did, just not the PITA input boxes with info I didn't care about entering (why put the address in the program when it's on the photocopy I saved?)

Been using this rebate tracker program 'bout a year now...works great and easy to use..better than stuffing all of this copies of receipts in a draw and hoping the wife doesn't decide to do any cleaning...:)

I never had a problem with the program. If you need to keep all the rebate stuff in one place, this is the only free program available.

I have a real simple method of keeping track of my rebates.

I keep a dir called rebates. For example

c:\my documents\Compusa - maxtor 120 gb $550 rebate

Under it, each rebate offer gets its own directory.

In this dir, I keep images of all submitted material as high quality jpg's. Including, receipts, rebate forms (either as jpg or PDF), upc's, etc.

Under this directory, I make another one with the date I mailed it in. e.g. "Mailed 6-12-2003"

also, if there are any issues or complications, i keep a text file with a running log of whats going on.

When the check is received, the main directory gets renamed

c:\my documents\RECVD - Compusa - maxtor 120 gb $550 rebate

Sometimes i update the dir with the date check was received, usually I don't.

This system has worked very well for me, and I can tell at a glance what i'm waiting on, and whats been paid.

GPz1100,

I can assure you Rebate Rebate is much easier and less time consuming than your way. It is still a good idea to scan the papes though.

I scan every bills including my grocery bills. I use Visioneer Paperport, which has custom folders and setting to do just what i do

That's, errr, very "retentive"!
And I thought I was a packrat with my shoe box of receipts!

Just how do you have Visioneer Paperport setup?
Separate directories for each of the stores you usually shop at?

Are you on your way to totally archiving everything - and paperlessly, too?

Isn't the big bugaboo was being able to *find* the right piece of "paper"?
Especially since we're talking stored images, rather than searchable "text" (of some sort)?

i used this program for like a sec...i works alright..but for some reason the DB's got messed up.. so i didnt try using it again..

but IMHO..i think keeping a spreadsheet is a better way to go..at way u can customise all the stuff u want to keep a track of.

i don't suppose you can open your shoe box and do an *auto-text search* and *find* the right peice of "paper". you still have do the search by looking at each receipt, just like you are looking up stored images. The key is to keep it organized. i file my images by category -> name -> year/month (depends) like bankstatments/fleet/2003/maystatment or receipts/2003/may/5-1 to 5-15. this way you can cut down your search time by a great deal. i also use ms money to keep track of my money, so if i don't remember when i made the purchase, i can just do a search on ms money and find the date, then look up the scanned image.

also, the new scansoft 9 now supports scan to pda, which enable you to do text search.

Quick question about Rebate! Rebate! (which I'm trying out now)...How do you enter multiple rebates on a single item?

Sorry to ask it here, but it seems their help files and website are a little 'sparse' and don't cover this aspect. Thanks for any info.

I've been using it for years. The author abandoned it to the public domaine abaout a year ago. So no requests for more features. It doesn't track multiple on the same item, I just do each sprerately and make a not to myself about it. It's a great piece to use otherwise.

Just curious, do you know anything about the author or company (Six International)?

Rebate Rebate is a great program, been easier for me than the access database I built. I love the price also.

Not a thing other they went out of biz. The program is in the public domaine now, not just freeware.
