Rebate rip-off

I purchased an OCZ GameStream 700W power supply from Fry's Outpost.com. It was advertised that it came with a rebate, something like $40. Well today I received a postcard from them saying my rebate was invalid because I purchased it from an "unauthorized retailer." I find this very disturbing because Fry's Outpost.com is listed on their web site as an OCZ reseller (http://www.ocztechnology.com/wheretobuy/resellers/online/north_america).

Did anyone else get clipped on this one?

Steven

They're just waiting to see if you actually call them on their bluff.

I have had similar porblems with other products, call them up, they shud be able to fix it. They do that randomly just so that they can make some money...

No, but I got "clipped" on a pretty sizable rebate on a Samsung ML-2010 printer about a year ago. The rebate handling company replied that I didn't purchase the printer during the allotted time period, when my purchase receipt clearly indicated I did. When I called to complain, they asked that I fax them the receipt. I did...twice. Both times they claimed not to have received the fax. I finally gave up and chalked it up as a life lesson.

Rebates FTL!

Do you have the rebate form? Does it list outpost/frys on the rebate?

Just like there are specific dates for rebates, they're usually only valid at specific retailers.

If outpost/fry's was listed on your rebate form, I'd call OCZ.

There is not a phone number to call, but I did email both Fry's and OCZ. The rebate form does not list any specific retailer. I keep copies just for this type of situation. Really ticks me off.

Same thing happened to me. Exact same postcard. Except it was a BFG GF 7800GS AGP.

I NEVER shop based on rebates. But if I buy something that does have a rebate I send it in. 9 times out of 10 I am stiffed. At least this time I got a nice lie in the mail instead of nothing.

I heard about that problem. I actually got mine and I am usually tough lucky.

I have never, ever, in my entire life, not gotten a rebate I put in for. I keep copies of everything and I send it signature required.
Oh ya, wrong forum.

Really? I hadn't realized there was a known problem with that printer and its associated rebate.

OCZ offered a 50$ rebate off a 200$ set of memory on Black Friday, then sent me a postcard like that claiming I bought it on an invalid date. Really taught me to keep copies of everything I send for rebates. I'll probably never buy OCZ again as well.

great i just bought a ocz 700w gamestream from NCIX and sent in a rebate i hope same thing dont happen to me. and btw the thing didnt work i had to send it back for RMA ROFL. First time buyer from NCIX hopefully next time i buy from there i dont get screwed over again.

Just because the rebate company doesn't advertise their phone # doesn't mean it doesn't exist:

Calling is FAR more effective than emailing them.

Rebates stink. I had an incredibly hard time getting a rebate fulfilled from CompUSA. Since then I have refused to buy anything from them which has a rebate. Basically I have quit shopping there. Otherwise Fuji is the only manufacturer that has failed to deliver on a rebate for me. Since that happened I have refused to buy any Fuji products. Looks like the retailers and manufacturers would already have learned their lessons about rebates.

it's going to take some effort, but it sounds like you should prevail. i've had bogus crap like this happen as companies try to weasel out of rebates, but after investing some time protesting to them i've never not got the $$ that was coming to me.

As long as you're persistent, you can normally get them to honor the rebate. I've had to fax and mail all sorts of copies in the past, but I almost always get my rebate.

Yep. Read the reviews on this printer at newegg.com

I hate rebates.

But, the rebates from when we bought our VZW phones in Dec of 06 were received back without incident.

When companies do stuff like that I make about 100 copies of the thing and fax those about 10 times.

They usually get it.
