*** The Kodak $30 rebate is no longer good folks folks. You have until the end of February to send in your rebate materials as long as your receipt shows you bought the camera on or before Jan. 31. Congrats to everyone who got in on this deal. I'll keep my eyes out for something else we can run them out of stock on... ***

FIRST OF ALL, yes, this is a repost, and full credit goes to Warmachine for posting the original thread. The deal changed a bit on that thread, and it was a little confusing to follow. Since this is such a hot deal, I didn't want it to get lost.

SECOND OF ALL, this involves a staples price match, which I, for one, completely hate. However, this one will work. I promise. Really. So if you're a PM virgin, now is the time to take the plunge.

This is for the Kodak DVC325 Web cam. This is not a dinky Logitech QuickCam. Oh no. This cam delivers 640x480, HAS A CCD IMAGE PROCESSOR (very important), and is, of course, USB. You can get full details on the camera, including sample images, here.

TO GET THIS CAMERA FOR $23.97:

1. Call Staples at 1-800-3STAPLE. You must call, as they have pulled this item off the Web site. Ask if item # IM1158956 is in stock. They will say, "Yes, for shipping in 3 to 5 days." (The IM means this comes from Staples' distributor, and isn't something stocked for next-day delivery. This works to your advantage later.) Ask for the price. Act shocked when the CSR says $140. (Yes, really, $140. Who are they kidding.)

2. Tell the CSR you'd like to do a price match. They will ask with whom, and you will say Buy.com. Buy.com has the camera in stock for $66.49. If the rep can't find the item, direct them here.

3. Staples will price match to $66.49, and they will add $5.75 to the price -- Buy.com's regular ground rate on this item. If a rep attempts to add next-day air, remind them that Staples doesn't have this item in stock for next-day delivery, and so the policy is to use ground shipping. You're now up to $72.24.

4. You need to get the total to $75 before you can use the coupon. People differ on philosophies here. I like to order something I'll actually use, but you can of course use paperclips to get you over. Suggestions (pick one):
1 of item # 430514, a 5-pack of Memorex 80-minute CDR's WITH JEWEL CASES for $4.99, bringing your total to $77.23. (I use these CDRs all the time.)
1 of item # 272120, a black Swingline stapler for $4.59, bringing your total to $76.83.
1 of item # 639179, a 10-pack of IBM-formatted disks, for $2.99, bringing your total to $75.23.

5. Now that your total is over $75, you can use a $25 off $75 coupon. As everyone and their mother knows, coupon codes aren't allowed here. However, I can direct you here, where you'll find a code from $25 off $75. This very code came from a post-card mailer Staples sent to the masses, so it's certainly no secret.

6. You have to pay tax, which will vary slightly depending on where you are. My total with tax was $53.97 (the camera we're pricematching was a couple dollars more expensive yesterday).

7. There is a $30 mail-in rebate from Kodak available here. Note that you must PURCHASE the camera by Jan. 31, 2001. You have until the end of February to send in the rebate.

8. Your net cost after rebate, varying a few cents based on tax: $23.97.

Again, praise goes to warmachine for digging this one up. Get on this... these won't last.

Just wanted to let you all know that I did this deal and it worked flawlessly....I got the camera 3 days later (UPS). The camera was set up in about 5 minutes and works great. I recommend getting a copy of CoffeeCupCam. It makes your camera a webserver, and it good software all around. I use it to check on the kids while at work. Awesome Deal.....bump.:D

I hope this is a top-quality webcam. I've to return the Kensington that I bought form CC few days ago. You can only see the blur contour or shadow at best.

SinMen: What reason did the first CSR give you for not honoring this code??? Staples sent it out on a postcard to just about everyone (including me).

jamester: All it takes is one, and you'll be hooked.

This is far less painless than many price matches, when you're trying to get staples to match some crazy no-name online retailer.

The CSR said I cannot use the coupon because they already PM to a lower price. He said he need to apply the $25 off first and then PM. So I hung up and called again.

Just did it, worked fine. Although now I know why I order things on-line, it took 15 mins to place this thing, getting all of my info and such. But it worked...

OK, This deal rocks!!!

I got the best csr there ever. She had the coupon, the disks item number and even was kind enough to make another account and write the ticket up twice. Each one was 52 bucks with shipping. Gotta love staples on this one. I have here extention number now for future deals. She said I she the best csr you could have hoped for. She had them all available, and was super nice. We even told her if she was ever in the virginia area..we would give her a job. lol

Name withheld cause she did the deal four times in a row and I dont want her to get busted. lol

twice for me
twice for my sales manager.

Easiest price match I've done!!! THANKS. Picked up some velcro tape and Box sealing tape (both of which i needed) to push it over $75. The CSR that I got was excellent and super nice.

THANKS FOR THE GREAT INSTRUCTIONS.

Wow, this was my first pricematch and let me say, "Thanks so much MontyBurns." Your instructions were great. This was so easy and I got a very nice CSR (Alicia). She first looked up the item and found it available, but not stocked for next day delivery. I had to give her the Buy.com SKU# (#10221214) for the camera to make it easier for her to find the item. She found the Buy.com item and asked me what coupon I wanted to apply!! I didn't even mention a coupon yet!! LOL! I added the Swingline stapler and my final total after coupon with tax came out to be $56 and some change. Awesome deal.

Thanks again MontyBurns and of course Warmachine for posting this deal. I was worrisome of trying to go through the hassle of pricematching, but with this nice walkthrough, it was a breeze.

It would probably be a good idea to first ask if the camera is in stock before informing them that you want to do a price match. I have heard of CSR's lying about the availability of products.

Well, if they are indeed out of stock, I hope I get mine since I just ordered five minutes ago

I didn't even tell them about the pricematch...I just asked them right away if I could see if an item was in stock.

Update

Just called one last time and MAGICALLY they are in stock again (damn lying CSRs, damn them to hell!) I think there might be some sort of flag, or the CSRs i got had already done the PM and didn't want to do it again. I got a wonderful CSR though...Amanda. She PMed no problem, although she did charge me 8.75 for buy.com shipping. Total was 56.16 and will be here next friday. Yay!

I loved doing it. My total was 54.54

I ordered ORCA 3 IN 1 STAPLER for $3.19 to reach $75 total.

Asked them to ship both together to save them some money on separate shipping. I owe them that :)
I should have it on 26th.

You guys are great.

:)
