2) If you have a problem with mail-in rebates, what the hell are you doing attempting to use them, and in turn supporting the practice?

Ding ding ding.

There is no reason why mail-in rebates should be "illegal". There may be reasons for consumers to shy away from them, but an actual law is WAY over the top.

It wouldn't be so bad if it only took a couple of weeks to receive them. The last one I did took exactly 3 months. They count on you not sending it in or waiting too long.

and you're one of their favorite types of customers.

I avoid these situations by mailing out the rebate the day I buy the item. Can't get any earlier than that.

I would say both sides are right... so you being the person who needs something from them, you'd lose. Send it earlier next time. ;)

Hell no. I open the box, install/use the item for a few days or even weeks and then, once I am satisfied that the product works as advertised and that I want to keep it, then I cut out the UPC (making it unreturnable) and send in the rebate form.

Of course, I always make sure that I do the above with enough time to get the rebate postmarked prior to the deadline. (It is most helpful to use the mail machine at the office ;) )

then you are not giving yourself the option to return if there is problem.

Return where? You may not be able to bring it back to the store, but you sure as hell can return it to the manufacturer while it's under warranty.

But, that is only if there is something wrong with it. What if you decide that it is not quite what you were looking for and want to return or exchange it for something different?

Cutting out the UPC is the point of no return. No reason to rush it if you have some time left on the rebate period.

You were able to... but you didn't.

Why should mail in rebates be illegal? They are one of the most effective ways of limiting a discount to one per customer.

I had even pre-submitted the info for the rebate ahead of time online. All they were waiting for was the form & UPC symbol.

If they can be so technical to say I am denied the rebate because it was postmarked a day after the deadline, I have the right to be technical because the post office was closed due to a National Holiday on the last day to get it postmarked.

Please don't say, "You should have mailed it earlier." True, but I should have at least been able to have it postmarked by the deadline.

Mail-In Rebates should be illegal.

damn people like you just may get that to be.

By a date means before that date...you realize you can't get something postmarked on Sunday usually too right?

I tend not to buy stuff i don't want.
i may have exaggerated a bit on how fast i cut out the upc code. I mean, i do install the item or whatever and make sure it works first.

So what if the 21st was a Sunday, and it was postmarked the 22nd, a Monday, and you were denied. Would you bitch and say it's not your fault Sunday the post office is closed? No? Then you're a tard for thinking a holiday is any different.

I just sent in for a $500 mail in rebate. Sometimes they are worth it.

Simple answer: don't buy stuff with MIR. I learned my lesson YEARS ago with CompUSSR. I haven't bought a MIR item in 6 years. (or one with significant value that I've actually mailed one in)

I put myself in that exact same position with an Abit Pro-35 rebate. Didn't even bother mailing it.

Ya snooze, ya lose!

LOL.

Sometimes, I think that I want or need something, but, once I get it set up/installed, I realize that it does not solve my problem, does not do what I want or cost more than it is worth.
