Hmm..

I took part in the Hot Deals Staples had on the 15th.

One of the items I bought was 256mb PC2700 for $79.98 - $20IR - $40 MIR = $19.98.

Ok, here's the problem. The memory was backordered, so I just got it today. They sent me 512mb PC2700.

Wonderful!, you're thinking.

But, what about the rebate? I assume I won't be able to get it since my invoice says 256mb and the UPC says 512mb?

And I can't get the 512mb rebate offer because my invoice says 256mb?

Should I send the 256mb rebate in anyway, on the off chance it will go through, or should I just forget the rebate and say the free 256mb makes up for it(i'd still send it in...)?

I hate rebates, I was waiting for $18 from fuji film and they said they wanted copies of all my information. I don't have copies so I'm SOL.
I say send in the 256 rebate, it's more likely that the processor will check the invoice instead of some numbers on the UPC (unless it says 512 in plain text).

Rebates are for suckers. There are a select few who make bank on them. But Manufacturer's know people are too busy to mess with a delay problem with rebates. 60 minutes did a piece it was interesting.

How about I just edit the HTML on my web invoice, print it up, and just.. for all intents and purposes, I bought the 512mb stick in the first place? ;)

May be unethical, but I'm actually getting less money back(30 instead of 40$ rebate on the 512 stick)..

Hmm...

call a CSR and demand they either send you a receipt stating you purchased the 256 or send you a check for $40. Do not get off the phone until your situation is cleared up.

Even though you got a better product, it doesn't mean you shouldn't get the rebate, and the person issuing the rebate will gladly screw you over to save $40.

I'll get declined..

I'm almost positive I would. They look for ANY excuse to decline you.

The point is that both the 256mb AND 512mb sticks have rebates, so I should get *something*..... IMO.

I don't exactly want to call them and say they accidently sent me a 512mb stick instead of 256mb. They would probably say in more or less words, "Oops... Quit yer bitchin', keep the gift." :p

Or worse, "send it back".. lol
