rebadged plextors

Is there a way to tell whether a cd-rw drive (ie. Iomega) is a rebadged Plextor just by looking at the box? I've visited roundsparrow.com and looked through the posts here...it seems that the only ways are either looking at the drive itself (checking for the LCD lights) or looking up the drive serial number on the FCC site.

Is there a way to know BEFORE purchasing the drive or opening the box up?
