DOS? Win2K? Er....these two don't go together. Win2K has no DOS, nor does it actually read win.ini or system.ini. Those two ini files are kept for legacy applications that read system parameters from them.

No....you cannot assign a pagefile from DOS. Can you get into safe mode?

Not, it is locked....have deleted a partition, so it dont have pagefile...boots fine most of the way, but get a dialog just before it windows screen comes up where it says i dont have pagefile...and i cant get it away...thought i could fix it manually from by editing some files but....

Try booting up from a boot disk and create the partition again using FDISK. Win2K might decide to be co-operative once you have somewhere for it to put a swapfile.

Unless your using a dual boot setup with Win98 and Win 2000 you can't get into dos with Win 2000 because it's not there.

Yeah, thats exactly what i was about to say AndyHui, sounds to me like youve deleted the partition where the pagefile was but theres now no writeable media with the same drive letter, so win2k will spit the dummy at that. Recreate the partition, and it will then be able to write its pagefile, and then you can move it elsewhere and delete the partition again if you so wish.

Unless your running Wwin2k on a FAT32 drive (it would REALLY help if you would state your drive setup, then your not gonna be fixing this with no DOS boot disk, as DOS cant natively read/write to an NTFS partition. If your running on FAT32 then yes go for it, but i would advise that you simply get a hold of the DOS Partition Magic disks and recreate the partition you deleted (when you say 'deleted' do you mean its unallocated space, or did you merge it with another partition? ). This will allow you to boot into win2k, and move the pagefile to a new location, then you can remove the partition again.

Win2K won't let you edit the Registry from DOS mode. Regedit is not easy to use from the command line, and only allows you to import and export registry entries. Because Win2K's registry key types are different, half of them cannot be properly addressed by Regedit from DOS anyway, even if you did find where the pagefile information is kept.
