reasons why the iraq constitution is destined to fail

i read the Iraq Constitution, and these are the main points that stuck out, which will pose a problem for the future. The national government has no power. The states, or provinces have it. Kind of sounds like the articles of confederation, no?

army - cannot go into a section (provinces, iraq has 18), they must get permission.

states rights - each province could reject a law (nullification)

congress picks the president and prime minister, people only choose the people in congress.also, in a time of emergency, congress could take over.

no concept of federalism.

There is much more immediate reason why it's destined to fail: the Iraqis don't support it. Given an opportunity to vote, they'd vote for a theocracy and end all voting.

The Iraqis are voted for the constitution and this assembly simply as a way to expedite the withdrawal of our troops. After they leave, it's ALL-OUT civil war. Whether our troops stay there 1 month or another 1 century, it doesn't matter. Civil war is going to happen.

While some might call this part of is a jewish conspiracy, I think it's sound strategy to keep nations historically aligned against the West divided and leaderless, so I was pleased that Wolfowitz & co. did whatever did they to ensure its passage.

Only time will tell, for sure. Afghanistan seems to be working out ok thus far, especially for a region new to the process.

Another weakness is the ease at which it can be ammended. Our bill of rights is something that prevents a simple majority from trampling the rights of minorities.-----given the two large minorities;
the sunni and kurds; such an easily ammended constitution is scant guarantee that any promises of tolerance will be kept or binding for a longer period than the next election.

So you're saying that all doctors are Jewish. My father, a doctor and a Catholic, will be surprised to hear that!

Afghanistan and Iraq are very different countries, especially in ways that would aid (or hurt) democratic unity. The biggest difference is that Afghanistan has been a country for a long time, existing much as it does today. Iraq, on the other hand, was slapped together by the British less than a century ago out of three major groups that really don't like each other. Iraq does not have the structure for unity that Afghanistan has, Afghanistan is more about changing the form of government, Iraq really is nation building.

I have always regarded Afgahanistan as something akin to ancient Greece. Never a truly united country and with warring internal factions. Yet let a foreign invader come and all unite against the intruder.

Just as Xeres and the Persians met ruin when they invaded Greece, the British army was butchered when it tried to invade Afghanistan well over a century ago.--after subdueing India Afghanistan was supposed to be easy.

Lesson to be learned----never under estimate a really pissed population.

As Wolfie and friends are learning.-----and as other are dying. Its truly the power of an idea. So it is written--so shall it be done.-----in a totally half assed manner that guarantees failure.
