Reasons to get an Xbox 360?

Before I start the thread, I'm not looking to troll. I think I'm asking a legitimate question here.

So I have some spare change and I'm thinking of buying an Xbox 360. However, I can't seem to justify the purchase of the console. Why? Because I have the PS3 Slim and just recently upgraded my PC. I tried to find a list of games that are exclusive to the console that I might like, but I haven't really found any. I'm not a big fan of FPS on consoles. Besides that I don't have a specific genre that I like. It seems like most of the games that I like are also available on the PS3. So basically I'm creating this thread to ask why I should consider getting the Xbox 360?

The most common reason is: "because when you see it you turn 360 degrees and walk away".

That about sums it up.

On a most serious note, if you can't find a reason to justify the purchase, don't buy it.

so you've already made up your mind you don't want an xbox 360, yet you want strangers on an internet forum, who have no fucking clue who you are or what you like, to change your mind?

yea great thread...

There has been too much violence. Too much pain. But I have an honorable compromise. Just walk away. Give me your pump, the oil, the gasoline, and the whole compound, and I'll spare your lives. Just walk away and we'll give you a safe passageway in the wastelands. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror.

If you don't like console shooters and you already have a PS3 and a nice PC you really don't need a 360. Most of the popular exclusives are shooters.

Xbox Live is great, the arcade games are great (Castle Crashers, Shadow Complex, etc) but I don't think it's enough to justify a $200 purchase when you can already play 95% of good games.

360 degrees is a full circle, 180 is walking away... momo

Anyway, if you can't 'justify it' then you don't really want it. If you need somebody to convince you to get something, then it's just the money burning a hole in your pocket and you really shouldn't bother.

Well there's nothing wrong with creating a thread and ask. If there's no justification to get one, then I won't and save myself some money. If you want to start a flame war, then go and create your own thread for that.

If you don't really want to play the XBOX360 exclusives, then the only thing I can think of is if you want to use it as a media extender. It integrates better with MCE than the PS3. However, I don't really think that's a good enough reason. I also have a PS3 and haven't had enough time to play all the PS3 and PC games that I want to, so there's no reason for me to get another console.

Uhhhhh . . . you don't need to put a disc in for Netflix streaming. You just pay $30-40 a year.

That's about it if you have a gaming PC and PS3 already, and don't like console FPS.

Lost Odyssey is a decent JRPG but not worth buying a $300 console to play.

(I own a PC, PS3 and 360 but I did want to play a few 360 exclusives like LO, enough to justify adding it.)

Wouldn't seeing it and doing a 360' just put you right back in front of it? :p

I can't give any reason.

I bought a Xbox 360 and basically paid $200 to realize I don't like the Xbox 360 compared to my PS3.

I can't stand the controller and just can't get past it.

Sadly, a few of you have never heard the lame ass 360 joke I used and fell for an obvious troll. Congratulations.

360 is *the* arcade game console in this gen. That's basically why I'm getting one. I don't have a PS3, but in my mind the two do not overlap much. The games that are on both I generally don't care about, or would rather play on PC.

I asked myself the same questions with regards to the PS3. I ended up picking up a Slim primarily for its Blu-Ray playback capabilities (especially after I found out that all of the hype surrounding Killzone 2 was pretty much hot air).

Since Halo I have pretty much grown accustomed to playing FPS games on consoles, so getting a 360 was pretty much a no-brainer for me once Halo 3 was announced and after I played Gears of War. Plus, all of my friends who play Gears, Modern Warfare, and now Bad Company 2 all do so on Xbox Live.

But if you already have a PS3, and you don't play console shooters, then I see little point to getting one. Mass Effect 2 can be played on PC, as can Gears. I can't think of any other Xbox-exclusive titles off the top of my head that would compel someone to pick up a 360.

The only reasons I would buy a 360 today are:

1. If I had to play the 360 exclusives;
2. If all my friends had one -- if you wanted to play online games with your friends and they all happened to have a 360, it might be worth it

Otherwise, I'd stick to your PS3 and PC. I have a gaming PC and all three consoles, with the PS3 being added last (Xmas, 2009) and my first Xbox 360 being in early 2007. I got the PS3 because of the Blu Ray player and the fact that I was tired of dealing with hardware issues on my 360s. I love the games I have for the 360 but I am on my fourth or fifth one and the DVD drive is starting to die on this unit (only a few months old). I decided to get the PS3, get all new multiplatform games for it, and relegate the 360s to media center extenders.

Plus, with the free PS3 Media Server, you have an excellent array of streaming options available for the PS3 that is at least on par with Media Center's options, though the interface is definitely lacking compared to the Media Center interface.

I know PMS does a great job on the PS3. I was just throwing that out there as another distinction between the PS3 and the XBOX360.

If someone had a PC that wasn't connected to the TV being used as a DVR for OTA or cable, then the XBOX360 could stream live TV from that PC, scroll through the guide, set and manage recordings, etc. That's something that the PS3 couldn't do unless you put linux on it and used something like MythTV.

Good point, that is very true.
