Reason for using weight gloves?

I need to get a pair to keep my dang hands from slipping further outwards during my sets. The grips on the bar aren't all that great on the bar that I have at home.

I never used em, but I can see why people do. Eventually calluses form on your hands at the main points of contact, and they can be quite painful themselves when the grips on the bar cause them to pinch in the wrong way. I never ripped one off but I could see how that would kill a workout quick...

For some people sweat builds up on their palms and it gets harder to grip the bars, gloves help improve grip which helps with performance and reduces injuries.

Looking at my palms, I should definitely get some. Edit: Yes, it does help with grip, especially on standing strugs for me.

I wear them. For years i didn't, because a girl i dated in highschool said she loved the feel of my calloused hand on her back... but i've worn them for the past 7-8 years now. If i don't, certain bars or exercises will pinch my palm.

I won't use straps though... i used them for a couple of years, and my forearms went undeveloped because of them.

I always used to lift without them, and no issues. After lifting for a couple of years I got callouses all over my hands from the knurled bars.

When I touched my wife in certain sensitive areas, she found the callouses....lets say unpleasant...and asked me too buy some gloves to help prevent the roughness on my hands.

It decreases calluses. Ever lift a bar and have a callus on your hand rip off?

OP must not work with iron. He uses those special soft, latex covered, sand-filled weights. hehe

I use them because of all the nasty fsckers at the gym who don't wash their hands after using the sh!tter or urinal.

I have never used them, but then again, I have big calluses. When you grip heavy weight with calluses, it can hurt pretty bad.

Some people with sweaty hands need them just to hold onto the bar. I use straps for pullups and shrugs for this reason.

I had that happen a few days ago, holy crap did that hurt like #*$@&

because my hands sweat really easily. I have to wear gloves for everything....baseball, golf, weightlifting, etc for grip.
