Reason #6,382 to hate New Jersey

free drink refills are nto that common place... that's nothing. I got charged 40 cents for a glass of water in North Carolina wafflehouse!!!

New Jersey is a very comfortable state to live in. With the exception of a handful of ghetto parts, the vast part of it is either suburbs or farmland.

Reasons to like NJ:
[*]no tax on food and clothing
[*]full service on gasoline along with cheaper gas prices than neighboring states at least
[*]lots of 24-hour diners
[*]shopping convenience of many malls
[*]proximity to Philly and NYC for when you want to go out

The closest I've ever been to New Jersey was LaGuardia airport and I was too busy looking at all of the insane NYC lights and buildings to notice NJ.

What the heck is wrong with Virginia? Besides Nova, we have lots of things going for us. Primarily rural state, with beautiful countryside, scenic mountains, the Blue Ridge Parkway, reasonable state taxes, wonderful highways, not too hot in the summer, not too cold in the winter, the state actually follows the 2nd amendment, free refills, and nice people. What's not to like?

as well as Atlantic City and Washington DC.

also, Great Schools for the most part.

A culture of education among High School kids because of proximity to Princeton (theres a negative there too tho for kids that DON'T make it to an Ivy league school feeling inferior) but it raised their expectations of themselves.

Highest population density and 2nd Highest Income per capita which is GREAT for businessmen. if you want a small business, consulting or whatever, NJ is the best place in the US for it.

Just curious, how come it's "I hate NJ" and not "I hate business travel" or "I hate steakhouses" or "I hate eating in new restaurants" or "I hate ordering soda" or even "I hate Newark". Isn't is a bit much to hate a whole state just for that one incident?

I lived in NJ for about a year, hated it, mostly because of my job, but there are some things that drove my batty.

Paying a toll just to drive about anywhere.

Almost every single phone call you make is a toll call. Not only that, but you dont even know it's a toll call half the time because unlike the rest of the US, you don't have to dial a 1 before calling. Heck I've had to pay local toll calls to towns about 15 minutes away, it's ridiculous.

However not all was lost, I did like the fact that there were lots of awesome asian grocery stores there. But that's about it...

Any highly densely populated area will have the same situation. southern cal, greater chicago, ny Metro.

I lived in NJ for close to 6 years (Wyckoff). Since I moved to the US, I've lived in Rochester, NY, Hermosa Beach, CA, Lenexa, KS (KC suburb) and Pleasanton, CA (East Bay of SF). My different jobs have taken me all over the USA.

I like NJ the best out of all the places I've lived.

Lived in: LA CA, Portland OR, Atlanta GA (most of my life), Chattanoga TN, Berrien Springs MI (4 yrs of college there), Dallas TX.

Currently residing in NJ and this is the place i like best.

Thread should def be changed to "I hate Jersey drivers". I don't know what it is with them, but they can't drive. I'm sure there are a handful that can, but the vast majority has no idea what they're doing. Don't get me wrong, there are many people in New York that suck at driving as well, but when it's noticable that an entire state can't drive, that's when you know things are bad. I live on the border of New York/New Jersey. Can someone explain why they can't drive?
