I have tried disabling and reenabling the controller for the rear panel USB ports via device manager. Nothing. The same device works fine on the wired front panel ports.

The vendor says I have to return the motherboard for replacement - WTF? - Any ideas?

thanks

Sounds reasonable to me....

Yeah, I recently managed to kill ALL of my on-board USB ports somehow - but my Abit mobo is well past warranty... 🙁 So I just grabbed a cheap (under $10.00 shipped ) USB port card with a NEC chip from eBay. Took almost no time to get here from the left coast by first class mail. Now I'm keepin' on keepin' on...

Well, I do have a spare usb card, but it is a plug in type - not pci. Maybe I can try it. I guess I need to find the connector on the MB.

thanks

All your on-board ports are probably dead (including the headers) as they are all controlled by one chip, but give it a try anyway.
