300mbs? realtek chip? sma external antenna? usb? $12 shipped?

hot hot hot!!!!

i bought 3 for $35. i can easily sell two of these to friends and make a $5 profit, while still having one for myself. great find!

and to think i just spent $20 on deal extreme for a 150mbs adapter that looks just like this. sheesh!

looks like they have a 1w version too for the same price? http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch_v3.asp?scriteria=AA98954&pagetitle=POWERLINK%20PL-H5DN-3070%20WiFi-N%20Wireless%20N%20802.11b/g/n%2010
150mbs though. forget that! 😉

Awesome! Thank you OP. This is dirt cheap. In for 2. I don't know about the rest of you but I have really bad luck with USB wireless adapters going bad after a few months.

i got the rosewill one with the 2 antennas a couple months back, but it's too laggy for gaming... anyone have personal experience with this one?

eh, guess i'll just try one...

ive read the main issue with these usb adapters is they get too hot under long stress... some people open them up and glue on a little ram heatsink to solve the problem.

i wouldnt really count on them for gaming, but the 300mbs helps a lot during file transfers (which is what i really need).

also, the sma antenna is not only nice because you can add whatever antenna you want, but you can also make this an internal adapter easily. just add an internal usb port off one of your internal motherboard headers, and add a short sma extension cable to the back of the case. drill a hole and screw the terminal in, and you have an external antenna jack on the back of your pc.

If it had windows 2000 support I'd be all over it. The notebook built into my car at work is still running 2000 and lack wifi. Oh well.

i think the only other thing that i would really want is for the software to support access-point mode. i doubt it will though, realtek usually skips that sort of thing.

This is a good tip. Yeah, I've read user reviews on a LOT of USB WiFi dongles and overheating is an issue with most of them.

Stupid question, will this adapter do 5ghz? I want switch over from 2.4 but my laptop and netbook built-ins do not support it.

Are these used just to get better signals in the house? I have a wireless system setup with a laptop, there are no connection problems but i have not tried the laptop on the deck yet.
Thanks

In my case, my desktop moves around the house quite a bit and it doesn't have built in wireless. Generally a USB stick w/o the antenna is fine, but with antenna does give you a considerable amount of extra range.

Ok, fine...I'm in...another purchase that I really didn't NEED, but it looks like a good deal...

I'm seriously going broke on this site.

most laptops non 'n' wireless... this gives better range and throughput if you have an 'n' router, possibly better range even if you don't...
