Are they better than nVidias Soundstorm? I'm just wondering because if i buy another MoBo if it will have a better Onboard Audio than my current Soundstorm. I heard the Soundstorm compares to Audigy 1.

No it's not better then the Soundstorm which is not better then the Audigy...Onboard sound puts more stress on the CPU and Arguably the Soundstorm is the best Onboard sound which if found on the NF2 Mobo's + has digi capabilities...

That's really odd that they would just make good onboard audio for one era of motherboards then ditch it.

Yeah I noticed a HUGE difference going from the sandstorm to realtek. I can't stand the sound on my MSI mobo, I might actually buy a better sound card.

You shouldve seen my expression when I first put on some music on my MoBo for the first time. I thought all new generation MoBo's had this good audio and thought my old audio was complete crap from the ice age.

Azalia HD is supposed to be comparable to a good standalone soundcard, but it's not on very many boards. The regular Azalia is pretty good (far better than the normal Realtek setup), but not quite as good as something like an Audigy2 or a VIA Envy board.

Soundstorm's big advantage was that it could encode DD in real time, and then you could output that digitally to a DD receiver. Its analog output is better than a crappy onboard solution, but I didn't think it was really supposed to be that spectacular.
