can someone rate the onboard audio Realtek ALC650 found on the abit it7 mobo. i wanted to know how it stacks up to the sound cards on the market. like how does it stack up to the audigy/santa cruz cards.

That ALC650 is just the 6-channel codec (read: digital-to-analog conversion chip). The sound engine is elsewhere, in the chipset presumably. What chipset does that IT7 use?

wut would happen if i soldered off the audio chipset? would the board still post? actually i could dremel it off and solder the ends to terminate them. just wondering if it is technically possible.

Why on earth would you ever do that? If you don't want it, disable it.

At any rate, the audio host controller is integrated into the south bridge. You probably don't want to remove that. The ALC650 itself is a tiny chip, I'm not sure where it is on the IT7.
