RealOne Player....I hate it!

Ok, I have RealOne Player on my system so my parents can listen to these christian talk shows and stuff. But I hate it b/c every once in a while it will pop up with this ad, advertising updates and stuff. And if I'm playing a game and it pops up it will minimize the game. I disabled it on startup, I think it was tkbellExe or something. But it still runs. I ctrl alt del and I dont see it there, but it still runs in the background somewhere. The program that it runs is in C:/program files/common files/real/update_OB/realsched.exe -osboot. I went there and tried to delete the realsched.exe file but it said the file was in use or write protected, so its running somewhere! Anyone know how to fix this annoying problem?

Maybe you can try AdAware? It supposedly remove any ads/spyware.

Anyway, if you still want to play real video/audio files, just use Tara Plugin for Winamp2 so you can play the files with it. Though you still
have to have a real player installed, but you can play the files in Winamp so you don't have to use a bloated software called realone.

Sorry don't have the links, but do a google, it's easy to find it. Hope it helps.

thanks im off to find that plugin now. i allready use winamp 2 to play avis and all other formats usin the NiceMC plugin.

If Ad-aware doesn't work, try downloading Startup Cop. It worked for me when I couldn't get a Window to stop popping up with my scanner software in it every time I logged on. The name of it the software was OneTouchMonitor. It was nowhere to be found in msconfig on the startup list or anywhere. I was then referred to Startup Cop and I ran it....... and there it was, OneTouchMonitor... right there on the startup list. I disabled it there, and it fixed the problem.

It's stupid that you have to download a separate program to have full control over startup programs. Microsoft jackasses!

I HATE REAL PLAYER!

Them jerks make every effort to disabling or uninstalling that thing difficult.

I wish ad-aware would do away with it.

some suggestions:
- go to safe mode and rename the file
- download startup cop
- use msconfig (build in windows except win2k, but you can find one that will work on win2k) and disable that during startup

- find the old real player 8 basic and just install the basic options, and turn off upgrading to realone
- this one may not be possible, but -- find a different radio station, like from winamp music or live365 (or something like that)

and yeah, those things (real player, popup, etc) sux

I have the RealOne Superpass but have never had a pop up like you've been gettin'. You can turn off AutoUpdate in the Tools/Preferences....
