really wierd/scary thing happened to me this morning

okay, this really scared the shit out of me. This morning I woke up, and I noticed I was sleeping on my arm strangely and tried to move it. Then I realized that I could not move my right arm. It wasnt stuck under anything extremely heavy and I should have been able to lift it out of there, but nothing. So I grabbed my right arm with my left arm and flopped it on the bed and tried moving it again. nothing. i was trying to move my arm and the signals were going nowhere. please note that during this entire time my arm was warm to the touch (healthily warm, not like burning or anything) and I could feel if I touched it, but I could not move it. A couple seconds later after I tried to contemplate living my life with one fucking arm my temporary parilyzation was gone and I could move my arm freely.

now.. uh... what the fuck happened here? has this ever happened to someone else or am I just a freak? this was probably one of the biggest scares of my life 🙁 Could my arm suddenly become parilyzed again at some random moment or something? other than a tiny bit of soreness I dont think there was any permanent nerve damage or anything.

(first one to make jokes about too much jacking off gets a boot to the skull 😉)

I deliberately banned you for one week, because I hate it when people break the rules. Appparently, you are not capable of expressing yourself without the expletives.
This is a forum, which is under private ownership last time I checked. Please enjoy your 1 week vacation away from the forum.

That happens to me sometimes, except with my fingers or toes, not the whole arm.

Yeah it gets scary sometimes, but if you keep on hitting the limb in question against something or rubbing it, the blood will eventually flow back and you will regain control.

Thats happened to me before, if you sleep on the arm, it like falls asleep from all the pressure on it. If when you touch it with your other arm, it feels like you cant feel that at all, and you cant lift it.
Nothing to worry about man, just dont sleep on your arm 😀

LMAO the same thing happened to me just last week. I woke up and i felt this big dead weight hanging off of my side.. I started wigging out and flailing my arm about until it woke up. Man, the pins and needles sucked while the blood was going back into the arm... It was really cool touching my "dead" arm with my other one. Felt like someone else's hand. 😛

lol!!! I have had this experience a few times. The first time it scared the $hit out of me. It has happened a few times since, too. I just don't sleep on my arm anymore. I think a nerve is being pinched when this happens, because my arm is always warm to the touch, so blood is obviously flowing. I used to sleep on my side all the time, but since the first time this happened, I have always been careful to sleep only on my back.....

happens to me all the time...when i sleep with my arms under my head or under anything heavy enough to really slow down the blood flow while sleeping, whether because its comfortable to fall asleep or i just end up that way after moving in my sleep...feels kinda cool to shake it and feel the blood flow thru...hehe...

One time as a kid I woke up and the same thing happend to me, from the neck DOWN. Since then it's only happend from the neck UP! LOL

At least yours went away, I had a friend who had one side of his face go "asleep" one night and it hasn't ever came back. A doctor told him it was probably Bells Palsy, which kinda sucks for him because thats permanent. But I guess its pretty much only facial muscles, but I have heard of severe alcoholics doing pretty severe nerve damage by sleeping on an arm in such a way that it cuts off the circulation for too long. So if you get too hammered one night make sure you go to sleep on your belly (so no vomit and die too)....😀

It could be that when you woke up, your brain somehow didn't tell your right arm to wake up either. When you go to sleep, your body is put into a state of paralysis. This is done so that you won't phsyically act out your dreams, nightmares, etc. So when you woke up, your brain was a little "out of sync" with your arm, and it was still in that paralysis mode. I dunno, i might be wrong.

Haha, don't worry dood, that happens to me sometimes too. It's a very, very eerie feeling to pick up one of your arm with another arm, lol. It feels like picking up dead weight.

Yea this one time I Woke up in the middle of the night with a hand on my face. & I Tried moving both my hands, but the hand diddnt move. Next I Took my right hand & Touched it, & It wasnt Mine. Next I Quickly went through who was in my bad & what I Was drinking when I Went to bed, & I sadly realized that I Was sober & alone when I Went to sleep. So about this time I Was just really freeked So I Jumped up & Started slapping the hand.

Soon after I Realized that while asleap I Dislocated my left shoulder & Had my arm wrapped all the way around my head... It was funny ounce I Turned the Light on & Took a Piss... But damn it was freeky at the time...

<< umm... the language filter broken or something? >>

Nope, he passed it. I checked his post.

Mods, please apply SMACKDOWN. 🙂

I remember when this happened to me. The first time I was scared sh!tless but just use your other good arm to help get blood flowing back and you'll be normal again soon.

That sort of happens with "my friend" sometimes. Except I'll wake up with this big pain down there and find out "my friend" is in the shape of a crazy eight through the front door of my boxers. A quick rearrangement gets it back to shape.

The damages alcoholics get when sleeping too heavily can also be caused by direct pressure on a large nerve (bundle). Usually the peroneus nerve (in the leg) is affected.

ahhh thanks guys 🙂 I posted this on another messageboard and this is the best explanation I've seen of it so far:

<< The brain cannot handle constant signals from any nerve. If you get into a position where a perticular nerve, or groups of nerves, have direct pressure on them, the brain will "shut them off" until the problem is corrected. Unfortunately for us, it doesn't constantly monitor nerves that have been deactivated, it just momentarily checks them at random intervals. This is why it can sometimes take a minute or two to regain control of a disabled limb. >>

This paralysis thing happens to me sometimes, and I understand your feelings about it and all, but your hatred for censorship should not apply here. It's under the forum rules. I suggest you edit out one or more of those letters before you get a vacation... unless you feel like being banned for a week just because of some futile belief in anti-censorship 🙂

I don't like censorship as much as the next person, but these are the forum rules. I abide by them because the forum is worth it.

thanks for the advice, but I'm just wonder what, if anything, filtering out words that you hear in every day life anyways accomplishes. Cuss words can be used to express emotions that other words just cant do as well. I really dont want to go into it but the filtering thing pisses me off.
