Really weird problem...need help..

as posted on other boards...need every opinion I can get so bear with me....

here it is:
all of a sudden one of my machines has started rebooting itself every 10 min or so (if under Genome max 4-5 mins) for no apparent reason...changed all possible settings...no go...changed the RAM with 3 different sticks/manufacturers in all possible combinations/settings...no go...changed video card and HD..same...believe me I'm going nuts....HELP!! It was a 24/7 genome machine with no probs...so far!
setup:
KT7A Raid
TB1200@1200 air cooled
IBM 30 GB 7200rpm
Hercules Prophet MX 32MB
Enermax 330W values OK (MBM)
modded case

Temps:35-36°c clean 40-42°c w/Genome

so any ideas??

Gee! how are you cooling your CPU???

I really think it is a heat issue. but have you ran a virus scan?? I dont know of any virus that does this but there may be one.
I would also try a different Power Supply it might have went a little sour, the heat issue might be within the PS. Have you checked the exhaust airflow from the PS? Try blowing the PS out with a little compressed air.
If you have been mucking around in the case you may have knocked the HD cable a little out of the socket on one end.
It is a tough problem, but I believe it is something simple. Reset the CMOS.

ok...will try and let you know...CPU cooled with a FOP32...case is modded with 2 120's intake and 2 92's exhaust along with the enermax which pushes out a fair amount too...maybe got a bit of dust in it....being on 24/7 since april.....

ok...it ain't the PS...this time lasted 40 secs.......with a 250 watter......sh........t.

keep 'em coming.......been suggested VIA 4 in 1's could need changing....possibile?

cleared cmos more than once....left it with Bios open....same....only culprits left are CPU and Mainboard.....I'll try taking it apart and will clean it...but I feel it isn't going to solve the prob....

Check the power bar and cables, make sure all is functional.
Check all the power supply switches with a multimeter.
Take all extra devices out (Hard drive, floppy, cdrom, Anything that you do not need to simply have the system powered up), and run it bare.
Use a process of elimination.

If you STILL can't figure it out, switch mainboards and try again.

If this doesn't help you, god help us all!
 
Cross your fingers...maybe I've fixed it....so far so good...

Basically I figured that all that was left was to take it apart and check if the core wasn't in fact chipped...it wasn't....so I cleaned everything up and reinstalled it from scratch with the coppershim, arctic silver etc. (after first tests I put a Vantec with Double Delta's to substitute the FOP 32)

So I turn it on...and sure enough...2 min and the screen goes...BUT....IT DIDN'T ATTEMPT TO REBOOT!!!...so...I keep an eye on the HD..and...it goes out!...I try to shut down using the keyboard and bingo...everything shuts down....

I've now temporarily installed an ATI Rage XL and everything's been up and running for over an hour now.

So...2 things....1)rebooting caused by thermal issues...(wasn't any sign of any HSF shift) however that is only cause left...HSF must have kept contact to avoid frying but still system overheated 2) on top of that my Hercules Prophet MX 32 MB just went KAPUT!

PHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
