Really weird experience with a cop today

So today I'm driving along and I see this cop parked on a side street. I slow down a bit because I was doing about 5 over the speed limit. The cop pulls out of the side street and pulls behind me. He follows me for like 5 minutes, changing lanes as I change them in order to stay behind me.

Finally, he pulls me over. He comes up and is friendly, tells me my tag is expired by 2 months.

He then says in a slightly eager way that sounds like it's more of a suggestion than a question:

"Do you want to get out of the car and take a look at the expired tag?" My impression is that he was trying to get me to get out of my car for whatever reason.

I tell him I just forgot to put the new tag on and I'll look at it later.

He runs the plates of my car, and finds out my tags are paid through 2009.

He asks me what I'm doing here (shopping center) and I tell him I'm just planning to get a haircut. I drive a nice car, from a much nicer part of town than I was currently in. (The lady who cuts my hair moved from my area to a new salon in this older part of town)

He lets me go with a warning (for forgetting to update my tags.)

I go into the haircut place, lady has the day off, someone mischeduled my appointment.

I leave (e.g. I'm back on the road in about 5-10 min after encounter with cop.)

I see cop parked in parking lot. He pulls out and follows me AGAIN for about 10+ minutes, always changing lanes to be behind me, but sometimes pulling far back behind me. Finally he turns off into the police station as I make my way back home.

Seriously WHAT THE HELL was going on in his head? I'm a clean cut college kid, no record or anything.

So, really, you're not even going to so much as mention the dead hooker in your trunk?

You clean cut college kids are all alike. Hitler was an impoverished but promising art student, Atilla the Hun was extremely well spoken and polite as a teenager, and Stalin? Stalin was the Vice President in charge of Happy Thoughts and Positive Feelings for the Kursk chapter of Cuddly Commies for Christ.

And look how they turned out.

That poor cop, that selfless, dedicated public servant with that donut-flecked winning smile, was merely trying to prevent the apocalypse, that's all.

Of course, all you cared about was your goddamn haircut.

Elitist.

Why do you care about being followed around? You're acting like you have something to hide....in your trunk....and what were you doing in that "hair salon" for a few minutes, just what kind of "salon" is this?

the cab I was in today got pulled over by a cop because the dude blew a red light so obviously and got nailed.

this guy had an expired vehicle license for one.. and told the officer his transmission was acting up and that's why he blew the light

cop let him go with no hassle, total pullover time less than 3 minutes.... lol chicago

Yeah you tell em Everman. I mean this is America. Why should anyone care if they are followed around, have their phones tapped, their emails read, their purchases recorded? I mean, the only people that complain about those so called "privacy violations" are dirty criminals with things to hide.

It's entirely legal to follow someone, and it is in no way an invasion of privacy. Terrible comparison.

Perhaps the OP is bald, which could explain why the cop was a bit suspicious about his activities in a salon.

cops are like the neffers, they get all their life's enjoyment out of bothering others.

I have been stopped:

1) Delivering chinese food with a freaking sign on my car at 11pm. Told to get out with my hands visible and to lie on the ground. I wasn't even speeding.

2) Heading to the beach, cop pulled behind me, put his lights on and I immediately pulled over. Asked for my license and insurance...gave him both. Held me on the side of the road as he ate a sandwich in his car. Finally came back and only handed me my license. Insisted I had no proof of insurance.

As he left, he threw my ins. card out his window.

3) Wife and I going to Citibank in Palm Beach (that is the closest branch). Cop got on my tail right when I entered the island, like inches away. Used my blinkers, drove the speed limit...

He never put his lights on. When we parked he parked in a "T" right behind us. We waited a couple seconds and he wasn't doing anything. We get out of the car and as soon as we open the bank's door he went ballistic on his PA, got out of his car and unclipped his gun with his hand on it. Ordered us back into the car with our hands visible.

The whole bank came out. He checked everything on my car...blinkers, lights, tires, etc. Ended up giving me a ticket with no instructions, just an infraction code (it ended up being 'Tint too dark" I found this out by having to call the city who told me it wasn't their ticket and transfered me around...another cop there asked if it was a 'Palm Beach Ticket' and then gave me their number.

When I called apparently this cop was already off the streets as he was in trouble for harassing many non-islanders that simply worked there. He also drew his handgun twice while pulling people over in front of the elementary school there.

There are a few other stories I have of cops pestering me while I was doing nothing wrong. I have no problem being pulled over if I am breaking a law.

I still think I have one up on them as I was drilling one of their now ex-wife's regularly...even bringing her to our Christmas and New Years parties. Another cop working security there noticed and asked her 'who her friend was', she told him 'I was her date not just friend'. I thought I was going to have an incident that night, but we left and got back to my place fine.

That is when you call 911. Seriously. *anyone* following you around for ANY reason is not normal, whether they are 16 year old kids or cops. You call 911 and let them figure it out.
