Really stupid question: How do I tell what monitor has a hard display?

It will say glossy display but be careful, some will have a gloss trim around the display and still say glossy.

i listened to part of the Nutty Professor 2 last night.

i can just hear Eddie Murphy saying, "what are you ? some kind of pervert
who goes around feeling monitors ?" right before he goes back to the lovable
Professor Klump.

I assume OP means a hard glass face vs. a more flexible plastic one. Been using computers steadily since 1984 and have never indulged in pressing my fingers on a monitor face - I hate fingerprints on the screen. 🙂

In a laptop, a glass face would be a bad things because the screen has to have some degree of flexibility or else risk cracking.

As for a desktop LCD, I like Larry's comment. 🙂

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is the new 24" LED backlit Apple Cinema Display. But unless your computer happens to be a current generation Apple laptop with a Mini Display Port, you're out of luck.

Asus used to make LCD monitors with hard coatings. I think they called it "8H hardness" or something like that. 17", 19" and 20" were available. There were videos floating around of someone shooting a crossbow bolt at one and it just bounced off. I think they're discontinued though.

So you can't stand the soft ones because of how they look, or how they feel?

If it's a matter of how they look, I'll think you'll find that a glossy panel like the LG L227-WTG looks like a CRT.
