Really stupid question, but I'm feeling stupid, so...modem setup

Ok, it's been about a half a year since I've even used a modem, much less set one up.
It's an AOpen ISA modem. What are the matching COM and IRQ numbers to use? I can't get Windows to detect the thing when it checks COM ports; if I manually install the drivers, it can't activate the modem.

Com2 - IRQ3
Com1 - IRQ4

those are usually the only 2 combinations that I use

*EDIT* I'm stupid and had the numbers reversed.

U sure? IRQ 1 is used by the keyboard, and 2 is the Interrupt controller.

The default for COM3 is IRQ4; COM4 is IRQ3. Using those, you will be in conflict with COM1/COM2 on your mobo unless you disable those.

Your best bet? COM3/IRQ5

If you are not using your built-in serial ports, your best bet would be to disable COM1/IRQ4 or COM2/IRQ3 in your BIOS and configure your modem for those settings which will free up IRQ5 for a PCI device that wants it.

IRQ1, IRQ2 is used by the system only and will not be an option on your modem.

Heh, don't know which IRQ to use. I'll try COM3, IRQ4. All IRQ's are taken on the system.

Ok, I disabled COM2 in BIOS, set the modem to COM2 and IRQ3 I think. Works now. Thank you much. :)
