Really Stupid HSF Question

Will a retail HSF from a new Athlon work on a Socket 370? They look to be the same size (dimensions), and some sites sell HSF as "Socket A/Socket 370" compatible.

I honestly have no idea, but I may as well put the retail HSF to good use (see here for why)

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm try it without a cpu on just to have an idea...
Basically it should work 😀
Always try never be afraid to fail 😉

Only thing to watch that I know of is that there wasn't as much space around the socket of some older boards. They tended to run the caps right up near the socket alot of times. Not sure if 370 boards have the mounting holes around the socket either (don't think they do).

Yes. It will work. I have the HSF that came with my AMD retail 2100+ on an PIII-800 on a cheap Soyo board. Works just fine. And it's quiet!

I've got the HS off of a Athlon 1900+ on a P3 733 with a no-name cheapie fan screwed onto the top, and it works just great - much better than the POS one that came with the chip. I'd say as long as it properly fits, and is at least as good as the stock one that comes with the retail version of the chip, you should be good to go.
