Man, its so wierd when something that hits headlines on the web or something that is popular on the internet finally reaches those that don't use their computers as a main source of information. Someone in the office (outside of IT of course) just emailed me 25 chuck norris jokes. Last week, someone sent me a link to star wars kid. Star wars kid! That's freaking years ago now! How do things like this slip by the non-computer users when I can somehow keep up with all of the boring things they read in their big hard to fold newspapers?

It always bugs me when news hits digg/slashdot and then a week or more later it hits the mainstream news d everone is talking about it like it happened that day and rehashing the same points and arguments I read when it was first posted.

Exactly. Sometimes we waste our own time because of the latency of other people. We should really be saying "why care now? I'll just be dealing with this in a week when the rest of the world catches on..."

Rather, i'll contact my local representative and suggest funding for such a division. If old people can hang out on the highways in a FHP car with only yellow lights I think we can find room in the budget for some old people to post up at the water cooler cross checking potentially R topics.

What was a sticky? The thread or the finger? (I still don't know what it is, and I still don't want to know.)

That means we are always on the cutting edge of internet hilarity

But the only way to successfully navigate the workday with such knowledge is to be a news prima donna. "Oh, you guys are just now hearing about that? It happened like 2 weeks ago. <insert obscure fact about the event.>"

I love when the local news in Phoenix did a groundbreaking story on street racing. This was after the second fast and furious had come out. And street racing had been going on for years. So it's not only online stuff...
