Hi guys,

i really need to know if this will screw me over.
I have epox 8k5a2+ and i was running original xp1600+ and
everything was perfect.

now i put in barton xp2500, everything is fine, but things are wierd
like for some reason i can't format my floppy disk correctly and i
can install my dvd software that i would be able to install in seconds.
i play some 3d games and their fine.

Here is what i'm concern about.
my boards is kt333 which does not officially support barton core pro...
but it works on mine board, it does show up as xp 2500+.....

should i be worried about this setup at all?

shingi

p.s your replies and answers is greatly appreciated...

Does CPU-Z or wCPUID show the processor having the correct attributes (cache, clock, etc?)

k

here's what CPU ID is showing...

Name "AMD Athlon XP"
code name "Barton"
package "Socket A"
Tech ".13 wierd symbol here"
voltage "1.664 v"
family "6"
stepping "0"
ext. family "7"

core clock "1822.5mhz"
multiplier "11x"
fsb "165.7mhz"
bus "331.4mhz"
L1 data "64k"
L1 code "64k"
L2 "512K"

does this sound like i would be okay, i'm wonder y i can't seem install my dvd software
now on my computer. I was able to previously multi-ple times without a
hitch, now i can't seem get it to work.

Do you guys think that this combo may be problematic?

Does the latest bios list as supporting the barton? Also what kind of memory are you using? 2100 memory might cause a problem

the latest bios doesn't say anything about supporting barton core.
On epox website, their processor support list doesn't show my board support
the barton core either?

someone xplain what could happened or wil happend to me.
I mean i hope that the worst thing is that because of my
board's limitations i won't be able to take full advantage of my
barton processor rite.....

or am i missing soemthing too...

Well, if the ONLY thing you have changed is the processor, than it is probably safe to assume it is the processor on that mobo. Try e-mailing tech support and see what they say.

buy a soltek nv-400 for 70$

I agree. Buy a motherboard that supports the CPU you have bought. :frown:

Soltek, got to love them. I also own a Kt333 but it's a revision that could support a 333Mhz bus. Bah who needs a kt400.

Thanx guys for helping out....

I have what REGS is saying too. my board can handle 400fsb.
my barton is currently runnning on 166 bus, so does that make
it anymore lesser than running on a kt400 chip in terms of performance.

What about features of the chip, like the 128k L1 cache... is that gonna get
messed up at all, or is via being a b*tch and just saying that it doesn't support
it when it really does? or am i being a b*tch to comment on Via's chipsets?...
