Really liking the New Beetle (stretch model)

Local dealership had a couple in stock when I drove by today - the new "stretch" model. Some pics from someone's Flickr:

They have a 200 horsepower Turbo model with a 6-speed transmission...whoo whoo 😛 My wife had a 2004 non-Turbo on lease a few years back and it was super peppy, so I can only imagine how much fun this model would be to drive :whiste:

Reminds me of the old modded buggies quite a bit, a street version of those. I like it!

I was actually looking at those somewhere and thought that they looked really good. Definitely not as "chick car" as the previous generation IMO.

That's certainly interesting. Front fender almost reminded me a bit of an RX-8. Sort of a love child of an RX-8, TT, and a Porsche. Not bad looking at all. Not sure I'd want to own one, but a huge improvement over the prior gen.

Yeah...my wife's Beetle was my guilty pleasure. It was her car, but I'd take it for a spin whenever the opportunity arose  The new one in black is pretty nice:

Local dealership had a white one and a red one. White one is surprisingly nice:

Might have to take one for a test drive. My lease is up in a year or two, but I really like my current ride (Kia Soul - the hampster car) and my wife is planning on leasing another Honda Fit (she loves her Fit even more than her Beetle). I really enjoy the Soul tho - just enough room for most projects that I don't need a truck (and when I do, I can just bug a friend or pay $20 to rent one from home Depot) and it has great features - Bluetooth, awesome handling, great snow performance, good gas mileage for a brick-shaped truck, and fun looks.

But a little roadster would be pretty sweet too :awe:

That's exactly what I was thinking, TT & Porsche, with a tiny bit of Mini slung in there.

Not my type of car at all, but certainly better than the previous gen.

+1 on that. This looks a lot better then last gen for sure. But eh.. turbo gas/diesel would be the only way to go for VAG products unless you go for the bigger motors.

I agree it does look nice but that 200 HP is basically the same thing many VWs had a decade ago (wasn't the 1.8 turbo about 180 hp?), they really need to bump that up more.

you can pay $34k for ~250 hp and AWD in the Golf R

I don't know why the hell you would, but you can

Didn't they make the 200hp Turbo engine only available with the AT though? The MT is limited to the non-Turbo, unless something changed since I read about the choices a few months ago.

not something i'd buy personally but definitely an improvement in the looks department. they are fun lil cars though.

That's retarded.

Wait, browsing their site they did.

From the side it kind of looks like a fastback PT Cruiser. Better than the previous gen, but still not my thing. Move the engine to the rear and ditch the convenience features and drop the price about $10K and I might be interested.
