I, too, had to change my lifestyle to lose weight. My high weight was 282 lbs. and my low was 217. I'm at 227 right now because I've been cheating a bit so I'm trying to knock those recent 10 lbs off.

Basically I try not to eat processed sugars and carbs like white bread, candy, pop, etc. and replace them with whole grain foods, low fat meat, etc.

Here's some meals I have on a good day:

Breakfast:

1 serving of oatmeal (not quick oats, regular)
a couple packets of Splenda to sweeten it up
Raisins or banana mixed in

Snack:

Low fat, no sugar added yogurt
or
Apple with skin

Lunch:

Two sandwiches made with - light bread (45 cals per slice), large amounts of lean turkey or ham, fat free american cheese, light olive oil based mayo
Carrots

Snack:

Whichever from previous snack I did not eat

Supper:

Boneless, skinless chicken breast with seasoning
Baked red potato with skin and a little light margarine and fat free sour cream
Salad with low cal dressing or steamed vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots

Is the food as good as eating out or junk food? No. Does it make you lose weight without exercise? YES.

because i didn't know you were using freshly squeezed oranges.
i assumed OJ out of a carton which is usually processed and artificially sweetened.

Thanks for the great replies. Surprisingly helpful. I didn't even know there was a health/fitness forum.

Fitday looks like it will be a help, although calculating all the calories/carbs and serving sizes sounds like it will be confusing. I'm not going to be able to change my bad sleeping habits, so I'm just going to have to work around them. Went to sleep at 3 am last night, got up at 8am, took a nap at 1 pm, got up at 6:30 pm, and still haven't ate since I chowed down on that sweet brownies/licorice combo last night (20 or so hours ago). This is the kinda trouble I'm dealing with.

I was never looking for heavy drugs, just something to aid me along the way, nothing dangerous.

I'm trying to make a list of foods that I like that are actually somewhat healthy. Scrambled eggs & cheese...Tuna (used to eat eggs and tuna a lot back when I was around 200). I like apples and peaches, though it's really hard to find good apples for some reason. I like steak/hamburger (no buns). I don't eat white bread, just whole wheat. Fiber I can fit in to my diet easily. As for what I've been drinking, it's been Pepsi ONE and Gatorade G2 Fruit punch (not sure of either of those are too bad, but Pepsi has no sugar, carbs and only 1 calorie, and Gatorade G2 is half of regular gatorade). I'm also a big Milk lover. Really difficult to just drink water only because It's flavorless...maybe I'd like some of that 'flavored water' stuff instead.

As for exercise I walk my dogs every night, almost never missing a day. Walk distances vary but usually takes 30-45 minutes for the whole walk. I really like sports of any kind but have no one to play with lately. I'll have to get back into Dance Dance Revolution (which was a big part of my last weight loss of 50+ lbs) and Wii Fit should also help.

Right now I'm 5'11 250lbs (just guessing but I think it's pretty close). Here's a pic of me

I've been getting bad too. I work at a helpdesk, we all eat bad there. It's just more convinient to go get fast food then to drive 15 minutes home and 15 minutes back.

Then again I'm WAY underweight, so I need to keep eating this way for a few years so I can catch up weight wise. So far it's not working, think I'll get a heart attack before I gain weight to be at the norm. :p

Though think the main thing is, have everything in moderation and try to eat as much fruit and veggies as possible. Those atkins diet and all that are just money grabbers tbh. Lot of those weird diets can't even be good for you, when they involve starving yourself and stuff. My mom is a diet freak and the stuff she makes her body go through really can't be healthy at all.

Forget the diet pills, man. You said that exercising wasn't a problem for you, so consider a few changes to the exercise routine. Don't just go through the motions, actually push yourself during cardio and weight lifting.

Exercise in the morning before eating, then wait at least 30 minutes before eating (you can shower and all that jazz instead of just waiting). Your body will be coming off a fast (period that you were sleeping, don't eat for a few hours before bedtime), and the calories that you'll be burning will come from your fat stores.

Find somebody to work out with if you have motivation problems. Create the expectation that you'll be meeting this person at the gym. Another serious person will help motivate you when you don't feel like working out (ie, a stronger commitment to get to the gym).

Eat more often, as several people have pointed out. Higher protein foods will be better than those comprised of carbs. More, smaller meals = faster metabolism. Lots of filtered water is good.

Quick food - nuts (almonds, peanuts), eggs, tuna fish, lowfat cottage cheese, and there are scores of good tasting protein bars out there.

Stop being so picky, try new foods and learn to like them. Pickiness is a sign of weakness. If you were starving, I doubt you'd turn your nose to a plate of kale and onions. Mmmm. I love kale and I love onions!
