512*2 PC2700 samsung *(dual channel)*
80gb wd 7.2k rpm
windows xp home edition /w sp1
xfx 6600gt 8x agp
300w antec tp-ii
asus p4sdx sis 655(sp?)

The problem is when, I play games on 4X mode on AGP settings it won't let me play newer games that require it. But when I use 8X AGP it freezes new/old games.. So at this point I can only play older games. I get aflickering and freezing on 8X and I get artifacting in higher games on 4X.

I hear its compatitibility, but I got hte new BIOS updates etc. and nothing is working I even got older drivers.
 
Hmm... agp is backwards compatible with agp 4x and 8x so I doubt it's that. Perhaps its just that your system is not powerful enough? A 6600gt should play even oblivion though... maybe you need a RAM upgrade.
