Thanks NASA :)

Few interesting things about that map. Check out the river Nile. Beautiful :)! And check out North-Korea. Not much lights there :D. In fact, it looks like South-Korea is an island in the middle of the sea, since there are NO lights in NK ;). Well, there is ONE spot of light in Pjongjang (sp?).

That same beauty from space makes it impossible to see anything in space from down here in Washington DC.

I never noticed the Nile river on there before... but it's pretty interesting now that someone mentioned it.

I think this would be a great poster to hang on the wall. Too bad they don't sell big versions of it. :(

<< Yeah, either way it's a cool picture. BTW, the 'lights' are simulated, hate to burst your bubble. >>

I thought something was up, a lot of them are lined up perfectly straight.

...of forrests and lakes as far as the eye can see.

Endless fields in other places, and mountain ranges in other places.

About the lights being simulated..... I read up on it a bit more & it appears as though I found out what it was I was thinking.... The LIGHTS are real, but the underlaying terrain is simulated. If you look at one of the links for the "ultra high-res" pictures you'll see that they have one of the lights only....that's what the original image looks like. Plus if you think about it the 'back' side of the earth would be completely dark, not lit up like that one is. I imagine they also used a VERY slow shutter to take those pics as well to emphasize the light.

Yeah, I remember that original thread:

"NASA has to turn off sun for a minute in order to capture this picture " - may not be the exact post.

It really shows you where the technolgy is.

I want to visit that northern most point in Canada just to see who lives there :D

Yeah.. because taking different pictures when the earth turns then putting them all together afterwards is out of the question..
