I was working on this at the same time, so I guess I'll post mine too. The only thing that I haven't worked on is renaming a lot of the stuff from NV... but anything that you actually see on the extension has been fixed.

Give suggestions and I'll change it too. Tongiht I'll work on changing all the names to Anandtech, etc..

Woah, that is cool.

AND definitely doable I think, for the AT Forums. If I have time this weekend, I'll play around with it. I don't think it would be that hard at all!

And when I get it done, all of the AT Forums will love me, and they will scream my name as they carry me through the streets......

simple:

1) unzip the files
2) go into \chrome directory
3) unjar goonmenu (rename to .zip and unzip)
4) edit /content/goonmenu/goonmenu.xul in a text editor
5) change links/add/remove links

same as KeyserSoze, I got no time, maybe this weekend if Key doesn't get it done ;)

It's just a right click menu for the forums website that would giv eyou quick links to the varius forums. Like fs5 said, if you just unzip it and edit the links in the source file it should be pretty simple to do....

EDIT: I'm working on fixing one up right now... give me a couple minutes

Get cracking guys... But one thing I noticed is that it only works for one site, I tried using both the Nvnews one and the Something Aweful one, but it did not work. Of course anandtech would be the only one you need..

Well I took a shot at it but must have some syntax wrong. All the main info with links and such is in the nvnewsmenu.xul file. I just changed the text and links and such but then it woudln't install right so I must have messed something up....

OK Wait, seems to be working better now.... But gotta readd everything....

When I tried doing it, it said 'Could not find install file'

What I did:

Unzipped main file.
Unzipped .jar file.
Edited the file with the names/links.
Saved as zip/renamed to .jar
Saved whole folder as .zip/renamed to .xpi

Didn't work. Oh well, let someone else figure it out.

Is there a certain compression that needs to be done for firefox to read the files? Or compile something? I don't know...

If I open it up and edit the nvnewsmenu.xul file and only change the Quick Links section (PM, Subscribed posts, etc) it works fine. As soon as I start modifying the rest of the menu, I can install it but I get an error with the first link I edited under the General Forums section. No idea what's wrong.

Are there any sort of FireFox Debugger tools you can use to test out extensions to see what might be not happy?

The plugin this extension is based on, GoonMenu, has been integrated into the SA Last Read forums extension. It's awesome.

It highlights threads you've read on forum one particular color if there's new posts you haven't read, and another if there's no new posts. If there's new posts, there's two buttons added to the right of the thread title, one takes you to the first unread post, the second removes the highlighting (if you're not interested in that thread anymore). The second button is there if there's no unread posts as well.

It's very nice, especially with the 10-20 page threads that are often at the SA forums.

Whoever figures this out deserves a sticky and automatic lifer status. :)

I second that.

I will do it this weekend. For real. I've been looking to make a FireFox extension anyways, to learn the architecture a little. (My first idea was a Friendster extension for logging in, messages, etc.)

But I'll work on it this weekend. And see what I can do.......

I can modify this one in the sections up top like Quick Links and such. But as soon as I modify the entry that says Open Forum and replace it with something like Off Topic, it breaks and kills FF. I emailed the guy on the other forum to see what might be wrong if he knows.
