Really close to purchasing (Epox 8KHA+)

Here I am again reevaluating my system purchase. I had orginally ordered the Asus A7V266-E, but after 3 weeks it has not arrived yet. So I've cancelled that order and started to think of the Epox...

Epox 8KHA+
Athlon XP 1600
Alpha PAL8045
Micron PC2100 DDR 256mb x 2
Antec SX635 (350W PSU)
VisionTek Geforce3 Ti 200
Audigy OEM or X-Gamer
40 or 60 gb Western Digital HD 7200 rpm
Yamaha 8824 CD-RW and a Creative 5x DVD (from previous system)

So I ask the anandtech forum folk once again what they think of this setup. I am considering looking at the 8KHA2, which has a HighPoint Raid controller, 6-channel C-Media onboard sound, 4 dimm slots and a debug card. Also with the HSF I really wanted to avoid the sound made by the 60mm fans.

TIA

You can wait for the 8KHA2, and in 3 weeks when it hasn't arrived yet, something else will entice you. Point is, if you keep waiting for the next best thing, you'll be waiting forever :)

Krank,

Looks like a great system. Two suggestions:

1) Get the Audigy or get the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. I have avoided the X-Gamer ever since I had some compatiblity problems with it. I have the Santa Cruz and it is sweet.

2) I would get 256 MB RAM and wait to see if Crucial is able to release the 512 MB DIMM this year like they say.

Just my two cents.

Looks ok,2x256mb is fine even if Crucial bring out a 512mb module you have a spare slot for it and I can`t see anyone needing more then 1GB of ram for a long while, btw are you going to OC?

Definately go with the Audigy it uses less cpu power.

I`ve just ordered a Epox board as well but with the 40GB Maxtor 740DX harrdrive :).

I meant the OEM Audigy or the Audigy X-Gamer. I hope their drivers work well with Win2k or XP.

Very true, though I'd save a lot of money waiting forever. The 8KHA2 had good onboard sound that might make getting the Audigy not necessary.

I was not going to do any real OCing until I get my system setup going for a while. Might max the memory timings and not touch the FSB for a while.
