Really Anandtech?

I just started getting this crappy Anandtech popup in the lower right of my desktop. Just showed up out of nowhere and now I cant get rid of it. Anyone know how to do that?

Cant link the image but it starts with "AT20 Giveaway..."

sounds like a new push notification from the site sort of thing. check in your browser settings to see if you've allowed it.

I've notice some as well but I cant recall if was just on Anandtech. Are you using chrome? Also the ones I've seen have a clicky to close them in the upper right of the popup. But yea this just started recently. will pay closer attention.

Disable at the left of your address bar, that text balloon icon, saying something about receiving notifications from AT.

Assuming it's not an ad - just a notification from Anandtech ...
In Firefox (if you use Firefox), go to "about: preferences#content" and hit the Choose button in the Notifications section. If you see a site(s) listed as blocked, it means you once answered "no" when Firefox asked you whether or not to let this site send notifications.
Apparently, you answered "yes" to the question and hence the popup. No idea how to reset if you answered "yes." I don't see how to add a site manually to the block list, so I guess you would have to block ALL notifications ... i.e. Do Not Disturb setting.

Hope that's clear. That's how Firefox works, not sure about other browsers. Maybe others know some hacks.

It's a notification and it must be from the forums as I have an exception to blocking notifications for the forums, but not for the main site, unless that doesn't make a difference - forums.anandtech.com rather than just anandtech.com. And, no it doesn't go away, it stays there when you leave the site until you close it. Not nice.

It's a nuisance if you don't want that reminder, but you can disable it (or not enable it in the first place), and it's likely going to go away after the giveaway period.

I find the Tapatalk popup and top banner more annoying on mobile. It's only there if you aren't logged in or have a saved session, but for me that's quite often. Not a big deal or anything, though, just a minor annoyance.

Yes that's it. Thanks for linking the pic. No I did not sign up for anything or enable notifications. And it is not in a browser window, it's on my Win7 desktop....never seen an advert do this before. It just pops up on my desktop randomly. This is really invasive and a good way to push away a lifelong Anandtech reader and forum user.
