If anyone could help me out, they will get a REWARD worth $10-15

Sorry if this is the wrong section...

Alright. I've been using Windows 2000 Pro for the last year even though we got XP and I could never fix this font problem...

My parents type in Russian/Kyrgyz as well as English. When you type in Russian Cyrillic, you use "5", "8", and "-" as part of the alphabet. The font that we use, is called "Kyrgyz 5, 8, -" and it works perfectly on 98/2000 Pro.

However, on XP, when I try installing the font, I can't see it. I go into language settings and I can't find it. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this problem, but i would really like to fix this problem so I could use XP instead of 2000 Pro (GUI!!!!!, Support, etc.)

The letters that I need can be found in MS Word-->Symbols-->Cyrillic.
5 is used for the character code : 04A2 (shortcut key: 04a2, alt+x)
- is used for the character code: 04AE (shortcut key: 04ae, alt+x)
8 is used for the character code: 04E8 (shortcut key: 04e8, alt+x)

I need these to work under Kyrgyz Cyrillic as 5, 8, and - on the keyboard.

I will upload the font I use soon...

Would appreciate if anyone could help.

maybe a call to Microsoft tech support would be the thing to do. seems to me that they would be able to help you with something like this much better than most of us.

Did you install it using Control Panel > Fonts, File > Install New Fonts ?
Does it show in the fonts list even if it doesn't show up in Word?
What type of font is it? (TrueType, OpenType, something else that needs extra software?)

The font works except for 3 characters.

The font I have is an "exe" and self-extracts to the windows font folder.

I don't think its TrueType because its not a regular font. It's a language type font.

I don't think MS has it for download but let me double check.

After you extract a font to the fonts folder, you have to actually go to the fonts folder. Once you open the folder, it automatically installs any recent additions. You won't see the fonts until you do this. It's really retarded like that.

goto regional and language options (in control panel), in Advanced menu, make sure you select the russian language you should be able to see the missing characters now :) make sure you click all the russian lanaguage encoding method ...actually ..put a check mark next to all lanugages :)...
