Real-world gains going to SATA from PATA?

I'm looking for likely figures on gains from switching to SATA. I know all the bandwidth #'s and such; I merely want to know if their is a modest(5% or so) gain.
I thought I heard awhile ago that SATA can transmit data in both directions simultaneously wheras IDE can't. If this be true, does it affect transfer speeds? These drives will all be 7200rpm.

Thought the bandwidth is greater, no current drives cn even come close to reaching it. Still there are a few benefits to SATA:

-On newer boards if you need a couple optical drives, you are quickly using up all your IDE ports.
-SATA cables are smaller and easier to work with, so they will cause less airflow obstruction.
-SATAII has a few extra features, such as NCQ, but their real world performance benefit (on desktops at least) in negliginle.

Basically, I would not upgrade a drive from PATA to SATA. If you are buying a new one, then SATA is a great choice. It is around the same price (maybe a few dollars extra), so why not?

the only benefit with sata i see is the smaller cable. if the price is the same and you need another drive, then i would get a sataII that has all of the true sataII features, as some don't, and is backward compatible with sataI, but i would not go buy a 80GB sata drive to replace a 80GB pata drive, there will be no difference.
