Real Time with Bill Maher

Well you're missing out, it gets pretty funny. 🙂

EDIT: And where do you get the ratings from?

Maher is one of the few libs actually worth listening to - lots of libs don't like him because he thinks for himself and doesn't tow the party line - he points out idiots on both sides of the aisle. funny interview, thanks OP

^ Not really. Maher is a raging, partisan hack of a liberal. Beyond Clinton-Lewinsky jokes and jabs at Dem pussiery, he tows the Dem line as well as anyone.

I don't know if I would say that. He definitely has had ALOT to bitch about with the current administration though. As anyone has.

Yeah, Maher is such a raging, partisan hack of a liberal that he supported Bob Dole for president in 1996. Same with how he keeps offering support to Ron Paul.

So, in case anyone is wondering the Democratic line is to elect Bob Dole and Ron Paul.

^ He also says he's a libertarian. No one intelligent buys it knowing that he supports illegal immigration (said he was surprised Bush was "enlightened" on immigration), supports massive gov't-funded programs (for healthcare, the poor, and schooling, the trifecta), is pro-choice, anti-gun (pro-gun-control), routinely denigrates Republicans and was just recently "surprised" that the South voted for Obama because he's black, etc. etc. List goes on and on. The only non-liberal thing about him is that he's consistently anti-war. Otherwise he is true-Blue, and it's exactly why his audience is predominantly left/far left. Come on now.

^ And basically the only reason he supports Paul is because Paul is anti-war and says some nasty things about Republicans nowadays. Maher is liberal almost in the extreme, especially in core beliefs such as gov't program band-aids and the pro-tax policies that justify these programs, both of which are the polar opposite positions of Paul or libertarian doctrine.

Having Morons like Bush running the country is a great source of material for his comedy but if you think it's just the Republicans he's bashing then you are more ignorant that I originally thought. He bashed the Democratic Congress and the Democrats in general as being cowards for not standing up to Bush and his handlers and considers them as corrupt as the Republicans

I listen to Bill Maher about as much as I listen to Bill O'Reilly, the Nazi blonde and that Glen clown that is now on TV. Pundits like this make their very lucrative livelihood by being as outrageous as possible. I have grave doubts any of them really believe much of what they spew. I think of them as the Howard Sterns of political commentary.

Merle Haggard is a different story, though. A true American icon, NPR recently had an excellent interview with him. I'll listen to Merle anyday (even back to his Okie From Muskogee days).

Maybe he routinely trashes republicans because they deserve to be denigrated? Hell, I don't even see the republicans on here trying to defend those clowns anymore. I fail to see how someone saying what we all know somehow makes him 'liberal'. Being surprised that the south voted for Obama because he's black? Yeah it's so 'liberal' of him to realize that the south is racist.

A quick check of his other 'liberal' views were legalizing all drugs, legalizing prostitution, privatizing social security, etc. Again, he endorsed BOB DOLE of all people. Ahhhh he's so liberal! His audience is more made of people who don't like Bush then any particular constituency. Luckily these days that means almost everyone.

Or perhaps he was ignorant of the massively large black population in the South...

How many whites voted for Obama in SC? I believe it was around 1/4...

Aww... Poor baby. How can you be so cold when he started by welcoming you. He said

Well, let me say, 'good evening, friends AND CONSERVATIVES, first."

I already mentioned he calls Dems pussies. The fact that you can only point this out while ignoring the rest of his commentary is pretty funny, actually.

He denigrates Republicans even when they're not relevant in a conversation. I can't help that you can't see it. And "the South" is racist? lmao, that's sadly misinformed. This isn't 1950. And endorsing a Republican president does NOT make you Republican, for god sakes we have several members of this forum who are conservatives that are pimping Obama. Does that make Pabster liberal? Christ.

And yet you still chose to isolate one of my particular points out of several, ignoring the rest of my factual statements on his stances on gov't programs, taxes, abortion, immigration, etc. All liberal, every single one of them. Now, whether you believe them to be right is another conversation (for example, I like Bush's immigration stance, but it's still obviously traditionally liberal nonetheless).

If your position is abortion should be legal because you think the government should keep their nose out of the entire issue, are you a conservative or a liberal?

Okay normally I think Maher is pretty damn funny and very entertaining but this is one of the worst interviews I've ever seen, really.
Also, who the fuck is Mele Haggard?

Wow, so because they no longer have colored drinking fountains they aren't racist anymore? Riiiight.

You claim that he says he is libertarian, then say as proof that he's liberal instead of libertarian that he's pro choice? More individual freedom is the basic underpinning of libertarianism. The libertarian party wants much much looser immigration policies then we have right now as well, that's the plank of the libertarian party. I guess in effect you are saying that because the libertarian things he believes in are also believed in by some liberals, that it suddenly makes him liberal? This makes me think you do not understand the definitions of those words. (not to mention have somewhat suspect reasoning skills).

You are certainly right that he holds some views that are decidedly un-libertarian, but those are still extremely moderate. On the tax issue he wanted to pay for other programs by doing things like ending the war on drugs (very libertarian), getting out of Iraq (very libertarian), etc. He's a gun owner for christ's sake... what he's come out against are things like teflon and hollow point bullets. This is hardly a crazy liberal position. While he doesn't hold every single position of the libertarian party, he holds far more of those then he does of any other party. I thought this would be a no brainer, but I guess not.

Also, who the f**k is Mele Haggard?

Philistine.

It's Merle Haggard, not Mele. He's a real country music star, as opposed to the hat acts/female models that have taken over so-called country music in the last decade or so.

So you mean he doesn't just sing about banging his sister, he actually does it?
