Is there anything out on the market today that can take an analog signal and on the fly generate a streaming mp3 in real time?

I'm not very familiar with how mp3 encoding and playback actually works, but I was wondering if it was possible to take an analog signal, say from a guitar or other musical instrument, and encode it into a small enough digital signal so that it could be sent over the web immediately to another site without delay.

I wasn't getting any hits in off topic, so I'll try here!
Thanks!

So far, I haven't found anything yet on something like this.

I can't see why it wouldnt exist - to have a hardware based A/D converter with built in mp3 encode/decode functionality.

I'm thinking of some applications where a real-time conversion / stream would be beneficial.

I'll check that videohelp site next.

Thanks,
