I mean I know I can read wikipedia, but that just gives you the historical meaning.

What does it mean when in 2016 someone is a freemason? Does it signify anything about their belief system?

I have a few friends that just joined it, they explained it to me, and I still don't get it. It's basically a social club that you pay dues to.

And lots of bear orgies.

Today, I doubt it's very different than being part of the Elk Lodge or some other fraternal order/social club where they dress up and have weird rituals for the sake of rituals...and then drink.

A freemason is that receptacle you get for free when you buy a 1 gallon jar of mayonnaise that you eat all of in one sitting before retiring to your bedroom to chat with your obese friends about how those skinny people are so friggin lucky and if you just look at food you gain weight and your friends are all like yup that is so true we are so unlucky and those skinny bastards are so lucky and then someone changes the subject and they start whining about how friends shouldn't let friends engage in run-on sentences because one of them is an overweight English teacher.

You may have noticed that people who know things are hated and despised by the ignorant. This is because people hate themselves and don't know it leading to a contempt of others who may in fact be superior in any of many ways. For this reason anybody who know something about what life really means will be put on the cross if he or she speaks openly. For this reason the Masonic order was formed, to introduce Koranic wisdom into the ignorant west. By selecting people with potential for learning and isolating them in a private teaching environment, ideas that are generally taboo can be slowly introduced. The enlightened have to teach in secret. Naturally, the teaching of real knowledge has moved on and the Masonic system is a relic. Similarly, alchemy represented as chemistry, was a code for the transformation of the false self into the self of gold. In the universe of modern worldly people real understanding of things doesn't really exist. What I just said really can't be heard.

I like how the OP thought putting "real talk" in his thread title would somehow garner more serious answers.

There was a building in the center of Amsterdam(nl) that had this symbol on the wall.
I checked googlemaps, but there is now a commercial sign on the same location on the wall.
There is a financial advisor company now.

But i know there are several buildings with this sign.

Here is one in Amstelveen :

There are several. And what is always obvious, the buildings look expensive( the above one being the exception).

The first rule of the freemasons is you don't talk about the freemasons.

That being said, watch National Treasure. It's a documentary about the freemasons. Don't watch National Treasure 2 though, it's complete FUD.

In the Netherlands they are really open and proud of propagating their rituals and symbols and how it can help to get another view of life.

just someone who belongs to a private club; you would want to belong to said club because it's "exclusive" and it might facilitate business deals.
