ok, see if anyone else has the same problem or similar.

real player, whenever i try to use it for any sort of video, opens up the file, video starts for about 1-2 seconds, then the whole system just locks up. the image simply stays tehre and nothing works short of hitting the power button.

this never happened before and all my other apps and games are working just fine, including power dvd, ati file player (and all other ati players), windows media player, apple quicktime, divx and whatever else. only real player does this. i dont have any otehr problems with any otehr applications.

since it started to happen, i have tried the following:

reinstall video, audio, mobo drivers. unistall completely and reinstall real player, chkdsk, defrag, diskcleaner, etc. nothing works. (all drivers are of course up to date).

system specs:

stock, not overclocked:

p4 3.06 (hyperthreadng enabled)
supermicro 4saa mobo, granite bay chipset
1 gig of kingston ram , PC 3200
ATI all-in-wonder 9700 Pro
audigy 2
maxtor HD
Samsung CD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD combo drive

any suggestions ?

also tried the updates and everything i could think of from within real player.

thanks.

I think the concensus on this forum is that Real Player is, to put it kindly, problem plagued.

Do you really need it?

If not............................Dump it! I took it off both my machines and I get along fine without it.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Realplayer is my LEAST favourite piece of software. Uninstall it - you don't need it.

I despise realplayer too... but unfortunately, there isn't any other player out there that will play .rm files.

I had the same exact problem with Radeon 9700 Pro. The POS motherbucking Real wise-ass Player would play a few frames and BSOD on me with an error in the ATI display driver dll. I said, fvk it!

Real player freezes the computer on me since I installed a 9500pro.

It hasn't bothered me enough yet to try to fix it, I just don't view the videos at CNN :p

OK, so you got me curious. I opened real player and from tools\preferences\hardware I moved the video slider all the way to the left to most reliable. I have played a half a dozen videos on cnn since with no problems, and before every one would lock up a couple of seconds into it. I hope it's fixed and that it helps your problem too.
