Did this many many many times growing up. We used pvc pipes, cut holes in the pipe to have a spot to light fuses, attached handled for better holding etc, a lot of fun. Very dangerous in hindsight, glad nobody got seriously hurt (just minor burns and scratches).
 
Yeah. Roman candle fights. Bottle rocket battles... we did this quite a bit when I was young.

Metal/PVC pipes. Little foam around the handled end as they got pretty freaking hot.
Only time anyone got "hurt" was when a kid held the pipe up to his face sort of using it like a gun and looking down the sights -- seems bottle rockets shoot out a lot of sparks and his face got some nice burns.
