How am I doing?

What about a small business owner trying to send a proposal to a potential client, and it needs to get there before 8 am? But because of the jammer, he missed out and a multinational conglomerate got the job instead and outsourced it, and the small business owner's family lost their home and started living on the dole, then got shanked by a meth-addicted hobo.

bringing up the children? good call.!

what if someone had a GUN on the bus?
What is there were a bomb on the bus and it couldn't go less than 50mph or the bomb would go off and Keanu was trying to disable it but couldn't get in a call to his supernerd buddy who would probably understand how to get around the failsafe device?

what if the presidential motorcade drove past the bus at exactly the same time as the President was trying to use the nuclear football (also known as the atomic football, the president's emergency satchel, the button, the black box, or just the football) to authorize a nuclear attack on China while away from fixed command centers, such as the White House Situation Room, and unbeknownst to all, the jammer frequencies bled over to the range used by the nuclear football, and we were prevented from retaliating to a nuclear attack by China and then the jammer guy got killed by the nuclear missles from China and hence, inadvertently killed himself?

huh? what about that?

you killed it. thanks. :\

I like the guy in the article.

And I don't like snitches, like USNews in this case.

Besides he hasn't been convicted of anything.

He, and his actions, are okay by me.

Hel0 at i m intrested in building thsi device for persoanal use. How to build/???
Well, I assume all it is is a zener diode generating white noise and being broadcast at the cell phone frequencies.

Of course, you could just buy it online for about $30.

Coworkers and I all pitched in for one off ebay. It was a blast when we went out to lunch and would shut loud people down and watch them just stare at their phone.

Let them do it.
Of course we have the best deterrent to excessive, obnoxious cell phone use! Distance. People can talk all they want but @sea roaming charges can be as high as $5/minute! 😀

Apparently in the US FCC wants opinion of the people on it:

A small jamming device is not going to cause a widespread disturbance.

Do the same thing in theatres and restaurants. Don't jam, just route the calls through a network (roam) so every text message costs $1 and every call (except 911 of course) costs $8 / minute. People would be notified both by signage AND a message on their phone when in areas where such charges would be incurred. It would be a "rude" fee. All proceeds could be used for charity, etc.

It's the nature of technology IMO, assholes have access to it too. I can imagine when cars first became affordable and nearly everyone could own one there were inconsiderate, rude drivers back then too but banning autos to eliminate bad drivers wouldn't work...

Oh yes but with tech comes the ability for more controlled environment. Smart systems onboard can easily determine one's mood and use correction if necessary. Two words: accupuncture seat! 😀

The first part, they are still grappling with WHO (in terms of public agencies) has the right to employ jammers in a controlled situation, which stemmed from something that happened on a BART train a year or two ago (I think, memory is fuzzy)

The last part: The only person authorized to transmit on those frequencies are the provider who paid for them. A restaurant/theater has no legal ground to stand on for transmitting on a frequency they don't own. How would you route something without transmitting?

The middle one is more near and dear to me. I work as an engineer for one of the evil cell phone companies. Complaints are fielded from customers and acted upon. So if some knucklehead walks around with a jammer, and it affects my companies customers without their knowledge, guess who gets to go out on a wild goose chase investigating lost calls/no service where previously available? This investigation takes me away from my children (as I am salaried I have to work as long as they can make me) My children will now become deviants and alcoholics due to the lack of a father figure. One rainy night, my drunk driving daughter will round a corner too quickly, forcing a bus off the road, a bus that has someone with a jammer on it. All will die, bringing us full circle.

Impressive extrapolation! A+

If I owned a theater, I woul make sure each auditorium was a dead zone. The lobby, fine. The actual theater? No texting/phone calls.

Don't they sell paint that does that?

In the future there may be courtesy features built in to hush phones in certain areas. I still like the pass through - get roaming charges tacked on idea.

Yeah, sorry, but that guy can go fuck himself. If I am on the bus then I am sure as fuck not going to be without data. I cannot stand being on the bus, and being on one without anything to do? Yeah, go fuck yourself, buddy.

I cannot read books or do homework because I get motion sickness within 10 seconds of trying to do that shit. (And it lasts for an hour after essentially) Luckily, it doesn't happen as quickly when I use my iPhone. And, even then, I am usually trying to download something to listen to if I am on the bus. (Pandora/download-podcasts, etc)

Wow, what a selfish dick. It's a fucking bus, not a theatre, or a funeral home.
🙄

Yes, it's a bus. It's full of people who (haven't asked to and) shouldn't be forced to listen a "selfish dick" loudly yacking away on his/her cell phone. It's really no different that a bus rider deciding to play his/her favorite music on a "boom box". Rude and obnoxious!

I am certainly not looking forward to the day when airlines start allowing cell phone use on commercial flights!

It's really sad to see how little concern some people now have over the impacts their actions have on others.

🙄 indeed!
