....they would rather kick a man when he's down on his luck

How is getting caught speeding and getting a HUGE break (re: construction zone) being down on your luck?

How about just accepting responsibility for what happened to you was your own fault? Certainly not "bad luck".

I can't imagine living with such an external locus of control.

Should've brake check the dumbass tailgating you, would've had a better story to tell than the one in OP.

after putting little thought into this, i think i will just pay the ticket. thank you wirednuts for not being a douche like many posters above. they would rather kick a man when he's down on his luck

You got a stupid speeding ticket and then complained about the cop letting you off easy. You admitted to driving in the passing lane because you were "afraid" of the jersey barriers. You admitted to increasing the speed you were already traveling at which was already in excess of the speed limit instead of braking and merging into the right hand lane. On top of it all, you want to go to court and fight it.

Stop being a prissy little bitch and take your licks.

Here in TX, the fines are double for a construction zone only if there are workers present.

Since you were driving late at night on Monday (Labor Day), there wouldn't be any workers there. So the cop saying he's letting you off the 2x fine sounds like BS to me.

Fines in a construction zone are still higher than out on the open road.

Worker presence makes if a higher fine because to that increase in risk when they share the road.

1. Shens

2. If not shens, OP shoulda called the cop a pig and tested out his taser

3. Shens that OP's Kia can go 17 over on a highway

Your fault, you do not need to speed up to move over for someone tailing you. Either move over earlier, or take a little extra time to get clear of anyone in the other lane. It's pretty obvious when someone comes up behind you if they'd like you to move over, without waiting for high beams.

Or, do what I do and ignore asshole tailgaters. I'll move over for polite people, but if you pull up to three feet from my car and start flashing your high beams I'm putting my mirror on night mode and staying the same damn speed.

And someone will send you into a ditch one day.

If you waited until they were right on your ass, it was you that was already being rude by not yielding.

Try to be more considerate in the future instead of being a pompous ass to those being 'polite'.

I need to get an F40 or something soon. Too many close calls lately. I am regularly at at 85-90mph on the highway daily. Fortunately so far when I have passed speed traps, it wasn't me going the fastest. This past weekend they have a trap once a month that I know about. I was slowing down trying to get to the right when Joe Redneck decided to put his lightbars on and start blowing his air horn at me (I was still at about 80mph in a 65mph zone). I was finally able to get over and he proceeds to fly past at about 100-105mph and right past the unmarked squad car on the shoulder. They lit him up.

I waved through my sunroof and gave him a 'beep beep' on the way by. Shit was so money.

Well, if you are in the left lane, and the right lanes are completely open, and someone pulls up behind you, even real close, we who do that would like to point out you have been in the wrong for far too long of a time.
We'd rather pass on the left, like we are supposed to, but you are trying to force a pass on the right situation.

I only get up real close, and flash lights, when it appears someone has plenty of opportunity to move over. If they are actively passing and they currently don't have an opportunity to move to the right, I let them continue at their pace without pressing the issue.

It's when I come up to a car in the left lane, and a completely open right lane, I get very annoyed. I shouldn't have to pass on their right, when they shouldn't be travelling in the left lane in the first place.
Mind you, one CAN travel in the left lane, if the right lane absolutely sucks. But when someone approaches from behind, you 1) should realize this way before they are suddenly on your ass, and 2) should move over asap to let them pass properly, then you can return to the left if no one else is behind you.

I've seen numerous people weave through traffic all the time, without even giving people in the left an opportunity to do things correctly. Sure, it saves time, but I like to try and teach on the move. If I am able to get through to one person, and get them to understand they should not travel in the left when there is traffic moving faster than them, then I think I have done my good deed. People breeze and sleep through traffic school, and people terrify me with their lack of courtesy on the road. So I have to breach rules of courtesy on occasion - but sometimes good instruction requires an in-your-face attitude to snap the slow ones out of their mindlessness. 😛

that has nothing to do with op's situation though. there was someone in the right lane. it was either speed up to get into the right lane, or slow down to get in the right lane.

op did the wrong thing legally, but he did the right thing in the sense that he wasnt trying to irritate the guy behind him any longer. if he slowed down to get over there might have been a road rage incident, although at least he would have been on the right side of the law.

fact is op drove for 7 years without a ticket. hes obviously not a bad driver. and frustrating things like this can cause people to complain... big deal. this is off topic forum, if hes going to bitch anywhere it should be here.

Given the OP track record here; do you really think he has been clean for 7 years:\

Real conversation between driver and officer writing them a speeding ticket:

Driver: why did you pull me over!? Other people were going much faster!

Officer: you were easier to catch. (Sarcasm)

People often think not being the fastest speeder protects them, incorrectly.

By the way, the solution is speed less, not buy a detector.

Speed less? Borrrring. 😉

I recently got my second ticket in a 12 month span. I have, in fact, resorted to speeding less, because at the moment I cannot afford a good detector.
That, and I don't think detectors offer anything in regards to Air monitoring.
That's how they got me this time, first time I've ever had a ticket delivered due to being clocked by someone in the air. 🙁

Worst part, I had all my Army gear in the car. Cop said he was going to, and normally does, let the military guys go (had me at 80 in a 65), but since it was my second one in 12 months, "it's a recurring problem and we need to nip it in the bud" or something to that effect. I understand his reasoning but I was not happy. Worst part, I was going the speed limit when pulled over (well, like 4 over - I was behind trucks), so I was confused as hell. Then he said I was clocked by air. ugh.

I knew it didn't really apply to the OPs situation. It was more a rant that blossomed from the post I quoted. People annoy the hell out of me on the highway. Every month I have a 3 hour drive across the state, and I am routinely in thirst for beer after all the fucktards with which I have to contend.

in the 25 or so years that i have been driving, this is 3rd speeding ticket i have received. i'm a pretty damn good driver and i attribute it to years of playing video games.

EK, you (and many others with your distorted views) hold a personal grudge against me and will keep attacking my character to make me look like a liar. FREEE PALESTINE!!! (that's probably why lol)

Well in my experience I have never been picked when i was the 'slowest speeder'.

Also I'd rather pay the speed tax.

got a speeding ticket July of last year

think the officer clocked me at 83 in a 65 limit. my fine was ~$500, San Diego area.

officer just showed me his radar gun and asked for license & registration

what part of san diego did you get caught at?

Sandeagle got a ticket - one given by a polite policeman just doing his job. Karma. Love it. 😀
And he/she is surprised the cop didn't shoot him...... for speeding. Because cops totally do that.

Did anyone else think of that cracked article about this?
