Interesting in how much is IPC increase.

Altho this all but heavily suggests they're burrying excavator\steamroller for desktop.
They can't survive with those huge cores on those margins,

Something looks strange with the OP's chart. I didn't think Intel was doing FMA at all until Haswell.
 
Yeah AMD's marketing department kinda sucks 🙂. At the moment,no intel CPU supports FMA.

Interesting to see AMD is positioning the 8350 as a competitor to the 3570k, I did not see that coming based on how trinity performed as a quadcore chip.

All I can say is this is friggen awesome if true. Just when you think AMD has gone and totally made themselves irrelevant to the enthusiast demographic they come back like this and completely redeem themselves :thumbsup:

I so badly want to buy an 8350 just to play with it, does anyone know if AMD solders their IHS's onto the CPU's? Can I delid an 8350 like I could my 3770k?
 
It might be intentional, if AMD has great yields they may not need to sell too many chips with 2 modules disabled.

As a stand-alone CPU for the DIYer, there is probably no compelling reason to shortchange your performance that much just to avoid spending $10, true enough.

But I imagine the price points are more for the product differentiation that will be made by box builders and OEMs.

That $10 CPU delta becomes a quad-core box with minimal ram, small/slow HDD, weak discrete GPU, etc relative to the box with the $10 more expensive hex-core...and the final price tag between the two boxes ends up being more like $100-$150.

So at the pre-built level the customer sees price differentiation because of segment placement that starts with a very small price differential in the CPU's and manifests everywhere else in the resultant component selection process for the box.

Really interested in the 8350's performance. Even if IPC lacks, the clocks are very high, especially being at stock. Makes me wonder how much higher it can go. If in the end it performs, then it performs.

IDC, I think your setting yourself up for disappointment 😉. AMD's own slide includes a disclaimer that they are not indicating "relative performance", but merely "competitive product placement".

I do think multithreaded performance will be competitive in some workloads, but power usage will continue to be a concern.

IDC, I can try to delid an older Phenom CPU, not sure if that'll say anything about whether BD/PD are soldered though.
 
Typical AMD, first generation is a boon, second generation of an architecture is relatively competitive in terms of performance and pricing. I hope AMD actually gains some ground again.
 
I'll come right out and say it. I hate AMD because I miss loving them. What I really wish I had was a sick, untouchable FX based rig that reminded me of my old FX-57 setup. Heres hoping for a solid 4.5ghz 8350 to at least compete with a 2500k.

Pretty much how I feel. I've never built an Intel based desktop, though I've had numerous laptops with Intel processors. I think in the end, at the moment I would still probably pine to build an Intel desktop if I was looking for very high performance, though the $169 FX-8130 certainly looks attractive and I'm sure wouldn't be hard to OC at all. Trinity is also a winner for those wanting a cheap multimedia PC with modest gaming capability.

Wont happen, I just hope an 8350 at 4.5 can compete with phenom 2 this time.

That slide is made like it's directed to idiots. "Bigger number to the left, so it must be better!" They compare 4 GHz to 3.6 like it's a metric of it's own, lol. And when they both have an instruction, they still grey out the i5 and put the FX highlighted.
Hope FX 8350 is better than their clown market department.
