does the non-real absinthe taste anything remotely similar to real absinthe? I ask this, because before paying an insane amount of 'real' absinthe, just to see what it feels like after drinking some, I'd prefer to know if I can handle the taste.

I have a bottle that I brought back from Czech. perhaps it is as inauthentic as people say--but what I can tell you is that it tastes like ass.

Allright now where the hell can I buy some Absinthe in the NY/NJ area? Do I have to order it online or are stores gonna start stocking it?

From descriptions of the flavor, it sounds like something I'd enjoy, but I don't want to pay the premium that comes with the name.

Straight it's probably the worst liquor I've ever tasted. Like a superbad version of licorice. If you do the sugar method it actually isn't half bad.

Absinthe in comparison to vodka makes vodka taste like a good tasting fruity drink,

Seriously, I am Ukrainian and when I drank absinthe in Canada I swear I could have used vodka as a chaser. The stuff is nasty as hell!

I'll stick to fatties.

:edit: Absinthe is fucking gross tasting. Like black licorice, but somehow worse. It will make you crazy drunk though.

I have been drinking it once and a while over the last 5 years. The stuff here in the states is fake; the real stuff is illegal here. You can order it online and get stuff from France with no problem. When I do drink it its always made with the little special spoon and a sugar cube that?s lit on fire and dowsed with water.

I guess you would see things if you drank enough just like any alcohol.

Czech absynth isn't "real" absynth. I'm told Czech-made is the WORST and doesn't even make you hallucinate.

The wormwood is what makes you "halucinate" and what we bought had 3% which is the highest legally alllowed

There are a few countries, the Czech republic included, where they regulate the amount of wormwood in absinthe. They put this cap on and it is enough to make sure the amount you must drink in order to feel something from the wormwood is so great that you'll be so stupidly drunk off the alcohol that you won't notice. Canada has this limit as well, and there are a few others in Europe.

However, this limit isn't worldwide and there are other countries where you can get much stronger stuff.

And AFAIK it was only illegal to SELL absinthe in the US, but one could legally buy it from a European distributer.

the entire point of this thread is that real absinthe can now be purchased legally in the US.

I've tried the real stuff from France and didn't see $hit. I suppose it is technically possible that the wormwood would make you hallucinate, but you'd have to drink so much that you'd probably pass out first. It's cool if you want to tell people you've tried it and want to sound fancy, but overall it's a waste of good money.

I had some a couple years ago and I fell down. Since I don't like falling down that much, I probably won't get any.

There's lots of information out there about absinthe. I recommend you guys checking it out instead of listening to or spreading rumors.

Wait, you mean to say that it's not made from ground up fairies mixed with the spittle of Baron Harkonnen????
