Ready for a good laugh? "AMD to 'gain four years' lead' over Intel" quoth The Inquirer

Dullard, AFAIK noone sells 8-way P4 Xeon systems yet, hence if you want 8-way Intel, P3 Xeon is the way to go.

And besides, P3/Xeons stand for the vast majority of x86 servers shipped today, since they're tried and true.

As for comparing a dual capable P4 box to an 8way capable Sun box, yeah that makes alot of sense.
You pay a crapload for the 8-way capability, no matter if you use it or not.

As for the newer Xeon's being cheaper, looking at the place where we buy our stuff at work, a 1.6 GHz P4 XeonMP with 1 MB cache is a mere $6.000.
8 of those and you're up to $48.000 right there.

Im not trying to say Sun is cheaper, trust me, I know they're not, however, the difference is far from what it used to be just a year ago, thanks to the increased preasure Intel is putting on Sun/IBM.

You guys are all confused anyway.

The Inquirer didn't say that about AMD...Barron's did, so you're not quoting the Inquirer...you're quoting the Inquirer who is quoting Barron's. Keep it straight! 😉

Yes, hence the thread title says, "quoth The Inquirer" instead of "says The Inquirer".

However, this quote:

It's almost like Intel has lost the will to live. Aggression? They've heard of it.

does seem to be The Inquirer's words, which I literally laughed at.

Who said I was refering to the person who started the thread? Stay sharp...
