Dullard, AFAIK noone sells 8-way P4 Xeon systems yet, hence if you want 8-way Intel, P3 Xeon is the way to go.
And besides, P3/Xeons stand for the vast majority of x86 servers shipped today, since they're tried and true.
As for comparing a dual capable P4 box to an 8way capable Sun box, yeah that makes alot of sense.
You pay a crapload for the 8-way capability, no matter if you use it or not.
As for the newer Xeon's being cheaper, looking at the place where we buy our stuff at work, a 1.6 GHz P4 XeonMP with 1 MB cache is a mere $6.000.
8 of those and you're up to $48.000 right there.
Im not trying to say Sun is cheaper, trust me, I know they're not, however, the difference is far from what it used to be just a year ago, thanks to the increased preasure Intel is putting on Sun/IBM.
